Mini-case an Ethical Flaw Mini-case an Ethical Flaw From an ethical perspective, people in decision-making power should use their power and act in the favor of the companies they work for and should not use their positions to attain their personal interests and goals. Therefore, from ethical perspective Mr. Bill and Allen are wrong because Amber’s father should not have used his power as an executive Vice president to secure a job opportunity for Amber that may influence and reflect in future relations with Bill from the business point of view.

Allen used his power to secure Amber a job in another company where he has business relationship – where his company supplies most of its products and where the firm’s president is his colleague. Thus, Allen utilized his prominence and influence to for personal benefit leading to conflict of interest between the two companies. Additionally, Bill acts unethically when he employs Amber eyeing high future benefits for the firm and trying to maintain his customer. He may be right to retain his customer and enhance his sales volume but at the same time, he violated the official company recruitment processes and policies of his company’s human resource management.

Bill act of hiring Amber with the hope of maintaining future business relationship with Allen Company is unethical and detrimental to the company because it led to lack of moral among employees and dissention for employees. Before according her this favor, Bill should have let her know what qualifications he was looking for to fill that position and her qualities as a worker. He should have also laid down employment terms and condition to Amber’s father, Allen. He granted Amber a job opportunity in his company because of his connections with her father not because she manifested excellent credentials and expertise, or because the service that she will render to the firm, an act that later ruins the productivity of the company.

Amber’s actions and behavior was unethical too because she knows from the start that she is unqualified for the job, and moreover, she is aware that she found few stimulating endeavor in her collage work and that Bill employees her not on merit but because of his connection with her father. She knows that her employer did not follow the right recruitment process and irrespective of her low qualification, her salary was higher compared to other workers who were highly qualified and experienced that her.

Similarly, irrespective of her inexperience she did not attempt to work hard to learn more about her new position or enhance her expertise and skills to handle office responsibilities and play her roles in the new job. Amber completely takes advantage of her position, brags to other employees of her father’s relationship with the president of the firm, and maliciously blackmails her colleagues into doing her responsibilities. For instance, when manager of the department confronted her because of her unorthodox activities, she always brought up of the tight relationship between Allen and the Bill’s company, therefore, the manager had no choice but to let her have her way.

Additionally, instead of using the opportunity to enhance her skills and grow with the firm, she opts to play a backbench role, unethical route, and skate by. Similarly, in this case Amber is only force to perform and assume her duties by her father, therefore, without the help of the father Amber will never learn her duties and always will take advantage of her father’s position to blackmail her colleagues and employer. Amber’s behavior is unethical because it caused more harm than the good - ruins the external and internal relationships of both firms – because with her unorthodox acts, the employer-worker relationship of the firm deteriorates.

Similarly, because of her irresponsibility and nature of her taking things for granted she ruined the business relationship between her father and Bill’s firm. There is more to the institution than it is to the parties involved; Amber her father and Mr. Bill. As such, her sustenance in the organization is based on her output as well as conduct. Moreover, all employees should conduct themselves ethically to avoid conflict and thus enhance performance. From the administrative perspective, employees should be treated equally and appraisal or reward measures should be given based on skills, expertise and experience not on relationship or friendship basis; this would lead to enhanced motivation and better performance.

The company should also reinforce its recruitment policies and procedures and ensure that necessary conditions are available for applicants’ recruitment In this case; Amber should be caution on her behavior and legal action taken, as would be the case with other employees .
