Advertising – Creating successful Ads Introduction Advertising is an important activity that is prominent in the business field, where it is used to create awareness, persuade and remind consumers about certain products in the market. Advertising is the part of the large concept of product, where various strategies and approaches are used in order to create and achieve the three objectives stated above. The effectiveness of an advertisement depends in the planning that is needed before its actual launch to the targeted population.The process that precedes effective advertisements and public campaigns has to include an upfront research that plays an important role in the communicational needs o the advertisement. The way to a successful advertisement and media campaign is supposed to begin with learning about the needs and characteristics of the target audience as well as the general characteristics of the marketplace (Klein 1999). This learning is important since it shapes the steps and approaches that are needed for a successful public campaign and advertisement process. This paper explores the concept of advertisement and how effective public health campaigns can be designed to need set goals and objectives. It examines the steps that are to be followed in order to set and run successful advertisement and public campaigns about health issues and other issues of concern that are identified through research and study. Advertising and public health There has been a rising conflict between the methods being adopted in promoting public health and the marketing for junk foods. Companies have a duty to ensure that they create awareness for the products they manufacture so that their clients can make proper choices concerning their purchasing behavior. While there is need for people to be educated on the need to make better health choices, they are faced with the need to buy their preferred products. Many children in America have suffered from various lifestyle diseases because they have been influenced to buy junk foods from the advertisements that run on the media. Cray (2007), explains that companies should try to find a different way of doing their adverts so that in as much as they promote their brands, they also pay attention to the needs of their consumers. Creativity in Advertising In the wake of health concerns over the rising number of children fighting obesity, Meltz (2007), has proposed that it is possible for companies to promote their junk foods but still hold on to the spirit of public health promotion. He explains about a case in a movie, where children are being advised to exercise, however, in a much as this may seem to be a right step, the effect would still die as soon as the hype in the movie dies down. In this case, there is need for companies to adopt strategies that have lasting impacts on children and other consumers while making their promotions. If children and other consumers can be educated effectively on the dangers of some of their lifestyle and health habits they can make informed choices on the products they purchase in order to maintain their health. Some of the strategies that companies should think about is introducing health programs in schools and learning institutions where they can talk to children and parents about the need to maintain healthy lifestyles for their children and other people in the society. This will also be an essential point form them to meet their customers and promote their junk foods. In fact, successful products promotion is best done when it involves personal selling and other approaches that involve direct contact between companies and their clients. According to Meltz (2007), involving Shrek on behalf of the government agency in the movie was an important step in helping children understanding the importance of exercises while enjoying the entertainment. While some people had showed open criticism foe the action that was taken by the government agency, many have acknowledge that it was an important step in helping children and other people struggling with obesity and other lifestyle diseases. Public health campaigns have often failed to reach targeted audiences because of various reasons, for this reason, creativity is needed to ensure that the intended message reaches targeted audiences in all possible means. In fact, the advertisement in the movies was quite short, something that would not have brought a huge difference especially for those people that had showed open criticism from the approach. Institutional advertisement Institutional advertisements have been thought to be the best way by which their consumers can learn about any health effects that concern their choices on the foods they buy and other choices. According to the article posted by Barker (2001), companies have been inserting promotional advertisements on the products they sell in a bid to promote public heath campaigns against issues like Obesity among children and other members of the society. This important strategy ensures consumers are adequately informed on their lifestyles and eating habits. Consumers, especially children, need to be educated on important public health issues as they grow, this enables them adopt important health habits that are essential for their lives as they mature into adulthood. In different school, some of the schools in different places also take different programs by which children can see advertisements on health issues. This strategy is very necessary because children are often in schools for most of their time during school days. Therefore running such advertisements makes them get the necessary advice on the health habits they would have got had they stayed with their caregivers. Institutions should devise their normal school programs in such a way that learners are given some time to enjoy the advertisements that are creatively designed in the best interest of the children while advancing their public health promotional objectives. Children are always known to love animations and movies that are fun and enticing, in the same way, public health campaign should use the opportunity to create advertisements that follow a similar approach and run them in the programs in schools. Conclusion Obesity that can be treated when diagnosed early, for this reason, it is important that parents and caregivers exposed their children to proper dietary habits as instructed by the health experts. Advertisements for obesity awareness and other diseases should be carefully designed so that their intended message reach the targeted audiences. The evidence of such should be measurable behavior change and action from concerned groups. Children should demonstrate their knowledge and awareness of health habits by eating foods that do not increase their chances of getting obesity. In addition, they should involve in exercises and other activities that enable them have better health In order to have sustainable impact, efforts to create awareness programs for obesity and some other lifestyle diseases should be done regularly. People have a way of responding to something that is often repeated to them in the intended style; in this case, the strategies being taken by schools are necessary so that learners can get the important tips concerning their health status and lifestyle patterns.
