Sample Practices that Benefit Stakeholder Groups 0 Sony Ericsson’s Release of Android Handsets Boosts Profit, Thus Benefits Shareholders. Sony of Japan formed a strategic alliance with Ericsson on October 2001 “to design, produce, and market the Sony Ericsson cellular telephone that allowed for a technological and commercial success on a global basis” (Menipaz & Menipaz 339). In the second quarter of 2010, the mobile phone manufacturer reported a net profit of €12 million. According to Sony Ericsson’s president Bert Nordberg, the figure is a result of the company’s focus on the value market and the success of new smartphones: Xperia X10 and Vivaz, both launched during the first quarter.

The other models Xperia X10 mini and Xperia X10 Mini Pro “which started shipping at the end of the second quarter have been well received by operators”. Sony Ericsson also accounts increased profitability to cost-cutting measures that started in the middle of 2008. This resulted in worldwide reduction of workforce by more than one-third or about 4,000 employees. Operating costs are expected to drop by €880 million by the end of 2010.
