Running Head: HANDS-ON WORK IN USABILITY TESTING.  Hands-on Work in Usability Testing Insert The website assessment is important in clarifying information that would not have been realized by the web developer being that not all web users embrace the information displayed on each web page. Transparency: http://www.transparencynow.com/index.html, is a website composed of flowing information that could be read between the lines. The pictures are placed within the required spaces which induce and increase the curiosity and user interest in understanding the information being conveyed in the web page (Jacko, 2009, p. 33).The hyperlinks are interconnected in a way to ease readership, once you are through with specific stories you get more stories down the line as you scroll towards the bottom of the page.

However, in order to reach a home page you only need to click home at the bottom of the current page instead of using back arrow on the top left side of the display screen (Barnum, 2010, p. 09).To some extent I tend to differ with the developer for embedding pictures of naked human beings on the page as seen below. URL: http://www.transparencynow.com/index.htmlSuch kind of pictures is immoral being that the family could find it difficult to discuss the information on the page together.

With the intention to display private parts of human beings the web developer hinted that the information on the page best suites adults. However, this is contrary to the information on the page which contains both educative and informative information that would best fit the whole family (Barnum, 2010, p. 17). Considering the number /instances of such vulgar or weirder information that would create a rift between the discussion groups ion family, the number of informative information is above average hence such information that are irrelevant for the page should be removed from the site so that both parents and children could have un- education forum (Jacko, 2009, p. 43). Through the study of the web site (http://www.useit.com/jakob), I realized that most of the information in the site history is vulgar meaning that before a user uploads information they go through the available information to realize the trend so that they follow suit (Jacko, 2009, p. 15). However, the web developer should create some codes to restrict use of vulgar words unless you log in.

Another option of solving this through creating user accounts so that private information could information. URL: http://www.useit.com/jakob/photos/jakob-nielsen-portrait-photo-big.jpgThe good idea with the photo is that by clicking on it you could enlarge it to a wider view unlike the picture in the other two sites which could not be altered at all. Considering the web site (http://www.useit.com/jakob/, users) could be withdrawn from accessing information being that the web page is not designed in a welcoming manner, the font style and color shows unconcern hence users may tend to think that this is an up communing page while it entails a lot of information that would be of importance to users.

On clicking the hyperlink for example in the URL: (http://www.jnd.org/ ) you find a full web page with pleasing background that you get to read between the lines to obtain an idea of the information that is to be conveyed to you. Here, there is a lot to share between users of any age and sex unlike the other site that contained information that could be demoralizing when viewed by users of different age groups (Barnum, 2010, p. 24). This is the best page (http://www.usability.gov/) in accordance with use requirements; it displays every key aspect at the same time, the top bar above with options of opening the web pages on deferent tabs or windows.

However, due to the user friendly format, many users are likely to visit the page and achieve a new idea that they never had before. The web page is simple and easy to understand unlike the other pages that requires a lot of time to go through the information displayed/ title bar on the page (Barnum, 2010, p. 45). http://www.usability.gov/index.htmlConclusion Considering the information displayed on the, http://www.transparencynow.com/index.html, we find that some of the information content are not up to date hence boring the readers who are interested in the latest updates.

The general user interface should be modified to contain features like sharing information, tweeter, and facebook, RSS feeds among others. This would increase the number of participants on information regarding the site.Other than that, the pictures displayed on the page should be embedded with hyperlinks to give way for enlargement to create more vivid view, http://www.useit.com/jakobThe user interface on the web page is not pleasing at all creating negative user perception unlike the hyperlinks which have better background for example url: http://images.

businessweek.com/ss/10/02/0201_worlds_most_influential_designers/21.htm which displays a better understanding compared to the home page. The website http://www.usability.gov/ contains simple are very easy to interpret information with matching warm colors to suite the users requirements. However, more interactive features would be added to enhance better information preference among the web sites under evaluation. The three websites could be improved to better information resource centers through understanding and implementing better ways to avoid un- educative information access through the sites (Jacko, 2009, p. 64). This demoralizes the parents in the view of their children which pleasing the children in the absence of their parents.

The children would be curious to know more about such sites that display information that is not meant for public consumption.Appendix 1Accessed from: URL: http://www.transparencynow.com/index.html on 30th Oct, 2011.Accessed from: http://www.transparencynow.com/index.html on 30th Oct, 2011.Accessed from: URL: http://www.useit.com/jakob/photos/jakob-nielsen-portrait-photo-big.jpg, on 30th Oct, 2011.Accessed from: http://www.usability.gov/index.html, on 30th Oct, 2011.ReferencesBarnum, C.
