 Abstract The main information in the report is to emphasize the significance of the Ubuntu operating system, and its use in the broader society. Ubuntu Operating System is cost effective and easy to use compared to other technologies such as the windows explorer. It has software that is rare to other systems like the Compiz. The software increases efficiency and functionality of Ubuntu. It is rated as one of the top used technologies on the planet. The importance of Ubuntu technology is improving the overall basic computer grades by assisting them perform new tasks such as shifting to Linux without hardships. Ubuntu also gives one the security and comfort in working and storing information online, since it has a password to unlock the administrative actions of ones documents. The password protects against superfluous persons from interfering with the documents. The constantly changing versions of Ubuntu make it a striking technology to apply. Introduction Ubuntu Operating System is the newest version of a computer operating system built to cater for the immense role computer plays on man’s daily activities. The system offers new features to its users and improves on their daily know-how in the computer world. Ubuntu is described as a computer structure based on the ‘Debian GNUL/Linux distribution’. This unit analyses history, features installation, packages, variants, editions and quality of Ubuntu operating system in detail. Background Ubuntu’s History and Development Process Ubuntu was developed as a result of the need of having an efficient system. The earlier systems were not efficient to do the multitasking task, which involved a user performing similar tasks at once. The first version of Ubuntu to be released for public use was on 20th October 2004. Various versions of the Ubuntu system are launched after eighteen months to advance on the effectiveness of the structure. The new versions of the system help in maintaining safety, thus preventing unwanted viruses. The Ubuntu system is being sponsored by Canonical Ltd and a well wisher named Mark Shuttleworth. The sponsor’s donations led to the formation of the Ubuntu foundation whose main function was to support in the development of the latest Ubuntu versions. Details Features of Ubuntu Operating System The features of Ubuntu are that; it is composed of different software packages like the free software. Ubuntu’s design allows it to focus on usability, safety and dependability. It can be fixed through the hard disk via the ubiquity installer without necessarily refreshing the computer. Secondly, it put emphasis on user-friendliness and internalization to reach prospective clients and users. It has a feature that allows it to support numerous scripts at once. Its second feature is the sudo tool which aides it in performing office task. Sudo averts inexperienced users and bugs from intruding with the system. Thirdly, Ubuntu has graphical desktop surroundings which offer game application like Soduku and Chess. The applications available in the Ubuntu operating system are cost effective, since they are affordable by most individuals in the society. Lastly, Ubuntu runs programs designed for supplementary applications like the windows application software. Ubuntu brings together and consolidates its software using features like Buffer overflowing protection, which significantly improves the security of the technology (Hiner, 2010). Installation of Ubuntu Operating System Ubuntu is set up using a USB drive or a CD. The CD has the Ubiquity installer, which guides the user in enduringly storing the system. The CD has a memory to allow the installation of the system into a computer. CD is offered at no cost to users of the system by its sponsors. Secondly, Ubuntu is also set up into the computer through the USB drive. Lastly, Wubi is a feature within Ubuntu that enables it to be set up and run within a practical window known as a loop device (Narang, 2011). Ubuntu’s Package Classification and Support Ubuntu has software subparts shimmering on the dissimilarity in authorization of the available supports. Most of Ubuntu’s application receives support from the Canonical limited, but unsupported application relies on aide rendered the community to perform their activities. Supported software refers to the software that matches up the Debian software guidelines while unsupported software does not match the Debian guidelines. The codes names are alphabetically arranged to enable one distinguish newer versions from older versions. Ubuntu releases are upgraded continuously to match with the changing technology. Ubuntu versions, which are lawfully recognized, are the Ubuntu desktop, server, business desktop remix and the TV. Ubuntu variants are brought about by the differences in the editions. The variants set up post that fluctuates from the bureaucratic Ubuntu allocation. Self governed variants are designed to accomplish the same task as Ubuntu, but they do not correspond to the controlled Variants or the Canonical sponsored Ubuntu’s (Narang, 2011). The unique features allow it to perform the task with ease and accuracy making it multitasking. Ubuntu is easily set up into ones computer by using the USB drives and CDs. Ubuntu is majorly sponsored by the Canonical foundation and has done a lot to emphasize on the quality of its technology. It has provided releases to newer versions enabling it to match with the changes in technology. Ubuntu instills computer skills into an individual making one be computer literate.
