MIS COMPARISON Introduction Management Information system (MIS) is composed of different services useful for the better management of the organization. MIS provide tools and services to managers for the management of working of the different functions within an organization. MIS includes the decision making software’s, databases, and applications for project management. Compare and contrast the MIS in place in two distinctly different organizations. Management Information System (MIS) for Human Resource in Tesco and Management Information System (MIS) for Sales and marketing, in Apple Inc. are selected organizations that will be compared and contrasted for getting the understanding of Management Information system (MIS). The need and demand of the Management Information System (MIS) for Human Resource in Tesco is increased due to the increasing focus of management on Human Resource (HR) in the multinational organizations. The functionality of Management Information System (MIS) for Human Resource provides services in a layered form. Initially, the core and basic activities of Human Recourse Management (HRM) are covered under the services given by Management Information System for Human Resource include as the automated attendance system, and maintenance of employee’s record in Tesco. The tools, procedures and software’s are provided by MIS system. MIS is minimizes some issues of traditional management work of Human Resource. Tripathi (2011) stated that function of sales and marketing was a significant part of growth for national as well as multinational organizations. Therefore, use of Management Information System (MIS) for Sales and marketing obviously results positively for the management of sales processes at Apple Inc. According to Zhang and Zhang (2007) MIS used for sales reduced the stages involved in sales process as compared to a traditional method of sales contained. The MIS includes features like sales analysis, decision predictions, effective for sales managers to handle sales, and online e- marketing and e-sales. The system covers the financial activities regarding the sales management. The system provides ease to e-clients and the labor cost of sales. Compare each organizations use of information systems to help manage internal operations and to make decisions. The Management Information System (MIS) for Human Resource in Tesco totally depends upon the information systems. The information system is used to manage the internal operations and also helps in decision making process in the organization regarding the management activities of Human Resource. The information system is a collection of hardware, software, network, internet and specific tools or software’s working to facilitate the user (Tripathi, 2011). The MIS working for the management of Human Resource provides facilities related to the internal matters of organizations and different kinds of decisions are made through the proper use of it. The system contains all relevant data regarding staff working within organization, so the functionalities can ne easily performed. The Management Information System (MIS) for Sales and marketing in Apple Inc. is also dependent on the computer system that is part of the information system. The sales system consists of a plan management system, business management system, database for storage, and finance system. The activity relevant to sales statistics and handling the process of sales is the working of MIS for sales management (Zhang and Zhang, 2007). The process of decision making for sales concerns are handled through the MIS for sales. The internal core and basic workflow of sales are processed through the information system designed for sales. Assess how these two organizations use information technology for competitive advantage Both the Management Information Systems (MIS) working for Human Resource (HR) in Tesco and Sales and Marketing in Apple Inc. are mainly dependent on the information technology. The improved and enhanced features of information technology directly promote the activities of the process of management and sales. The organizations using Management Information System (MIS) for handling the Human Resource processes and Sales activities are getting the positive advantages of information technology. According to Bidgoli (2013) the working of Management Information System (MIS) was storing database regarding sales and management of human resource and reporting functions. With the time features, internal processes and a high number of activities are improved for the Management Information System (MIS). The growth in information technology makes an impact on the Management Information System (MIS) being used for HRM and sales and marketing systems. Many kinds of managerial activities are handled through the Management Information System (MIS). The addition of features like e-business in sales organizations, e-payment for organizations staff is made with the advanced features provided by information technology. The process of e-marketing and e-shopping through credit cards is managed. The usage of MIS for sales increased the reliability of sales manager for managing the sales processes as well as sales team performance. The features like sales performance dashboard, web based applications for interaction and quick response features come under the area of the information technology. Appraise the individual and organizational consequences of the use of information technology and recognize potential security breaches and computer crimes. The use of information technology is beneficial for individual and organizations. Along with the advanced and updated features of information technology, some of the potential security concerns emerge. With the rapid development in the field of information technology, the rate of computer crimes is also grown. Information technology has both positive and negative impacts for users in the organizations. The individual user uses information technologies for useful purposes, but the criminals are disturbing them in different ways. The internet hackers, intruders and other criminal activities are destroying the level of trust and reliability on the use of information technology (Tripathi, 2011). For example, an individual person uses email account for sharing personal information that is positive application of the information technology, and other hand the hacker hacks the password and interferes between the privacy of an individual. It will be the negative impact of the use of information technology. Same is applicable for social media sites where criminal activities are happening and disturbing the users. A hacker can access the database of MIS of Human Resource and may alter or delete the useful information. It will be the great loss for the company. Therefore, security concerns are always there along with the information technology. The negative consequences of information technology are harmful for organizations at different levels. The organizations contain huge data of many users, so when intruders do wrong with a wide range that causes data loss (Zhang and Zhang, 2007). Conclusions: The MIS is the computerized management system highly beneficial for businesses running in today’s age. In this work, comparison is made for MIS for two different organizations Tesco and Apple Inc. MIS is viewed in terms of decision making and internal process of the organizations. Further it is observed that organizations use information technology for competitive advantage and recognize potential security breaches and computer crimes. Management Information System (MIS) for Human Resource in Tesco and Management Information System (MIS) for Sales and Marketing were the two selected organizations for discussion.
