?Knowledge of Intro to Technologies Introduction Technology is gradually becoming known as one of fastest changing phenomena of life. Interesting, changes in technology are always focused on making existing technology better. It is not for nothing that the kind of technology that exists today has come to be known as the emerging technology. This is because today’s technology focuses much on finding solutions to basic problems that exists in human endeavour, especially those that are related to the running of businesses and organisations. For new start-up companies such as this, it is inherent that insightful consultations are done in reference to the application of needed technology needs to ensure that the kind of technology that is put in place is one that meets the needs and aspirations for setting up the company. In the present scenario, one unique characteristic of the proposed technology would be on the need to meet the different technology needs of different employees of the company. Interestingly, though the work of each of the employees come together to ensure the successful running of the entire company, each employee’s works is so different that thinking of a different IT solution to each employee is the best way out in ensuring that the technology needs of the company are met as far as emerging technology is concerned. Proposal of Technology Needs Employee Hardware requirement Software requirements Connectivity requirements Subtotal General Remarks Reviewer Laptop, tablet PC, digital camera Windows, office Wireless card, USB modem AUD$2,000 Reviewer needs digital camera and tablet PC to make accessibility to taking of motion and still images easier. It should also be possible to capture audio recordings with these hardware. USB modem will also be appropriate for the laptop whiles the wireless card will be suitable for the tablet PC. Editor Desktop, smart phone, laptop Windows, Photoshop Wireless card, USB modem AUD$2,000 The editor will need a desktop PC in other make large scale editing of still and motion images possible at the company premises. The smart phone will make on the go access to information possible. The Photoshop software is needed for editing pictures and videos. Website designer Desktop, laptop Windows, Photoshop Wireless card, USB modem AUD$2,000 The website designer also needs Photoshop because he will be doing a lot of editing of images. The presence of desktop remains useful to the website designer because he would need to test how well the designed website would perform on different platforms including a desktop PC. Business owner Smart phone, tablet PC, laptop Windows, Wireless card, 3G, USB modem AUD$2,000 A smart phone is specifically mentioned because the business owner would need to make a lot of calls to business clients. He also needs tablet PC to access mails and the internet as often as possible. Meeting/Conference Room Laptop, large screen monitor, projectors Windows, office Wireless card, USB modem AUD$1,500 The meeting or conference premises ought to have access to sophisticated LCD screen of larger inches to make presentation of meetings possible. There also need to be laptops to make the networking of information possible while meeting proceeds Networking, Printing and File sharing Desktop, laptop, printer, routers, Ethernet hub Windows, office Wireless card, USB modem, LAN Hub AUD$1,500 This is the component that needs larger amount of networking systems. It is for this reason that both wireless and LAN network systems are recommended. Overview of the network setup Considering the various technological demands of the various employees, the most prescribed network connection type to use is the wireless broadband connection. With this internet connection, it should be possible for all employees to access the internet without the need to have any wire aided connections in place. The advantage that this phenomenon will have over other forms of wire connections is that there will be an on-the-go access to the internet as far as a Wi-Fi device is available. There will also be enough room for as many devices as possible as the restrictions that cabled networking brings will be curtailed. The wireless broadband is expected to work with a radio frequency, which will affect the network setup in a number of ways. In the first place, within the company’s premises, there is not going to be a rigid distribution of computers and other technology tools. It is however expected that as a way of ensuring uniformity and orderliness, there will be a 2-way network provision, which will be the provision of a hub and a wireless access. In effect, devices that lack wireless connectivity such as old fashioned printers and digital cameras can still be part of the network through the cabled router while laptops and other modern computers use the wireless access. There could thus be a network setup such as the one in the diagram below Source: Mitchell (2012) From the diagram, we see a router and wireless access point network diagram or otherwise known as hybrid Ethernet router. The advantage of this network setup can be seen right from its system make up as it caters of the old-school as well as the new-school. It also caters for the sophisticated as well as the robust. General discussion on emerging technology Emerging technology remains a very central part of the present system setup that is being considered. First, it is important to enumerate the components of emerging technology in this context as any form of information and communication technology that building on the aura of modernity and advancement. This means that the kind of technology that were used in time past and are gradually fading out of the system of innovative technology are not considered. To this end, it mention can be made of devices such as tablets PCs, laptops, Wi-Fi broadband among others. Considering the fact that the tasks given to most of the employees of this new company requires that they ply their daily duties outside the premises of the company and have access to news as and when they happen, portability will be a key factor in their business endeavours. Having said this, it would be seen that the use of laptops and tablet PCs come as advantageous devices as compared to various forms of desktop computers. This is because these portable devices are highly mobile and can be moved from one point to another without much trouble. Even more, these devices have been structured in such a way that they meet modern requirement for the dissemination of information including constant access to the internet through wireless components. Another strong point to be considered about emerging technology and the present company is the ability of the company to develop very huge competitive advantage from the use of emerging technology. The reason for making this point comes from the fact that emerging technology presents business owners in the multimedia sector such as the present company the opportunity to have access to varying components and forms of data including still picture, motion picture, internet, electronic mail, audio, networking and digitised communication all by the use of a single device. For organisations who are not into emerging technology, there is the tendency that the rate or degree of data (information) to be accessed by them would be barely minimal as compared to competitors with emerging technology. This would however be a valid point only if the company identifies its marketplace so well. For instance the company ought to target and identify market destinations where competitors may not be as sophisticated in terms of emerging technology as the present company. Having made all these points, it is also important to touch on what could be the negative components or aspects of emerging technology. One of such factors that readily comes to mind is the fact that emerging technology is at risk to high levels of hacking and hijacking. Once such a situation happens, the company is going to face a risk where by most of its information are going to get into wrong hands. In the event of such an occurrence, copyright issues may also become a difficult challenge to be over because some of these hackers may take the lead of broadcasting secure information belonging to the company. The company is therefore advised to put in place a number of factors that will ensure that there is maximum security for all its technology systems. With emerging technology, the company may even resort to sophisticated forms of data protection such as the use of biometric security. REFERENCE LIST Mitchell B. (2012).
