? 4G Wireless Networks 3. Compare and Contrast of 3G Wireless Networks to 4G Networks Services and Application The services and application of Third Generation (3G) wireless network has been identified to facilitate the mobile users in order to accomplish incessant connectivity utilizing different videos, data and voice services through various networks as well as devices. Conversely, the services and application of Fourth Generation (4G) wireless network focuses upon seamless incorporation of existing wireless technologies in order to develop new technological standards by a significant level (Kumaravel, 2011). 2. Network Architecture The network architecture of 3G wireless network comprises two vital networks i.e. the Core Network (CN) and the Terrestrial Radio Access Network (RAN). These two networks are fundamentally liable for the deliverance of effective services to the users that include user authentication, charging and exchange of data among others. On the other hand, the network architecture of 4G wireless networks encompasses two key networks that include Long Term Evolution (LTE) which is responsible for delivering higher speed of different services and Mobility Management Entity (MME) that is liable for collecting data usages and most importantly enhancing 4G infrastructures (Peng, Tu, Li, & Lu, 2012). The network architecture of 3G and 4G wireless network can be better understood with the help of the following illustration. Source: (Peng, Tu, Li & Lu, 2012) 3. Data Throughput The data throughput of 3G wireless network has been noted to be 384 kilobyte per second (kbps) to 2 megabyte per second (mbps) (Motorola, Inc., 2008). Whereas, the data throughput of 4G wireless network is 20 to 100 mbps on the basis of mobile mode (RYSAVY Research, 2008). 4. User Perceptions According to the users, the speed and the rate of data transfer are quite high in the case of 4G wireless network as compared to 3G. Moreover, the individuals also possess the perception that different activities such as video-conferencing, streaming videos and playing online games have superior picture resolution and clarity in 4G wireless network as compared to 3G (Kumaravel, 2011). 4. Distinguish Between the 4G LTE, 4G WiMax and 4G WiBro Networks 1. Upload and Download Speeds The upload as well as the download speed of 4G LTE or 4G Long Term Evolution is 50 mbps and 100 mbps respectively. The upload and the download speed of 4G WiMax which stands for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access is 30 mbps and 70 mbps correspondingly. It is worth mentioning that the upload as well as the download speed of 4G WiBro Network is similar to 4G WiMax (Yant, 2012). 2. User Perceptions The perceptions of the users regarding 4G LTE is that it provides significant benefits to the users that include advanced security, enhanced customer address related control as well as customer experiences and high rates of data transmission. According to the users, the service availability of 4G WiMax is quite limited as it does not facilitate the additional users to use and access the connection. In accordance with the perceptions of the users, it has been noted that 4G Wibro Networks possess the imperative facets of high rates of data transmission, superior access of broadband facilities and improved customer experiences (Yant, 2012). 3. Backward Compatibility The backward compatibility of 4G LTE comprises of an LTE terminal that supports the 4G services to work effectively in an LTE-Advanced service network and vice-versa. In this similar context, it has been apparently observed that the 4G WiMax networks are backward compatible particularly with different 3G based technologies that support the individual contributors with effectual business ideas. Conversely, the backward compatibility of 4G WiBro network encompasses WiBro gears that eventually facilitate the users with the offerings of superior as well as faster broadband services along with establishing a highly-sophisticated and saturated broadband market (Yant, 2012). 4. Service Availability The service accessibility of 4G LTE is expected to impose spectacular impact upon different mobile applications as well as service-provider competitions. This is owing to the reason of its effective featured services that include low latency and higher upload as well as download speeds among others. Due to its effectual service availability, 4G LTE is regarded as one of the dynamic solutions for bandwidth-demanding services and latest technological advancements (CISCO, 2011). In relation to determine service availability of 4G WiMax network, it has been viewed that 4G WiMax network possesses limited sort of service availability due to the reason that the network does not consider and often cut–off the additional users except the existing ones in using the connection. With regard to determine the service availability of 4G WiBro network, it has been apparently observed that this network possesses the capability to trace out a particular receiver who intends to stir from one specific location to the other with a speed of up to 74 miles per hour. This significant function of 4G WiBro network ultimately makes its service availability much broader as well as stronger in comparison with 4G LTE and 4G WiMax networks by a greater extent (Yant, 2012). 5. Identification of the Competition between the 4G LTE Carriers and its Benefits The facet of enlargement of the choices of the customers is fundamentally viewed as one of the key driving factors causing competition between carriers of 4G LTE. However, it has been noted that there exist certain other crucial factors that are driving such fierce competition as well as generating more interest especially in mobile technology in this modern day context. In this regard, one of the crucial factors is the accessibility of mobile broadband speeds that are competing directly with fixed-line access technologies in order to support the users by facilitating them with enhanced productivity. Another imperative aspect that contributes in causing fierce competition between the carriers of 4G LTE is the role played by the governments of undeveloped nations. In this connection, the governments particularly of undeveloped countries desire to take full benefits of worldwide services by employing pioneering technological advancements with the intention of increasing telephone access in rural regions which ultimately generates fierce competition between the 4G LTE carriers (Yant, 2012). Thus, on the basis of the above discussion, it can be affirmed that the decisive factors of the enhanced competition include enlargement of the customers’ choices, easy accessibility of greater mobile broadband speeds and the role played by the governments in undeveloped countries. The benefits of the fierce competition between the carriers of 4G LTE to the subscribers include mass deployment of 4G LTE carrier operations, enhanced security, high latency, broader user support, greater transmission of data rates and better mobility as well as power performance. Moreover, the other benefits encompass concentrating on wider coverage areas, facilitating larger service accessibility as well as attractive transfer data plans and enabling the subscribers to perform dynamic activities in today’s wireless technological environment (Yant, 2012). 6. Reasons for Verizon to Cover More Markets than AT&T Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Network was successfully launched in the year 2010 and is regarded as the first carrier to deliver a 4G LTE network especially in the United States. This particular aspect ultimately supported Verizon to advance their different coverage areas and to accomplish superior competitive position in this modern day context. This could be one of the imperative reasons for Verizon to cover more markets that AT&T by a greater extent. Moreover, the deliverance of broad assortment of 4G LTE-enabled devices of Verizon to the users that comprise tablets, iPhones and iPads among others eventually enabled them to cover more markets than AT&T and most significantly to enhance their productivity as well as profitability by a considerable level (Verizon Wireless, 2011).
