20 March Global Warming: Myth or Reality Global Warming means increasing temperature of the earth. Through this process, ocean temperatures are getting high and the layer of the atmosphere is coming closest to the earth. The topic ‘Global Warming’ in itself is creating a lot of controversy at nowadays. The controversy is regarding to the concept of global warming, whether it is myth or reality. Actually global warming is real and some people are not ready to accept that the temperature of earth is increasing. And they are considering it as a myth. “Ultra violet” (Wang & Oppenheimer p. 1) radiation to the earth is the main problem which is being faced by the spices and plants from sun. It heats them and the radiation is making various issues for everyone in earth. It changes the routine of earth and it is one of the reasons for strange climate changes which don’t support the living beings on the earth. One of the popular myths is that Global warming does not exist and the winter season has been getting colder. The reality is that the temperature of winter is rising. And in most of the regions, climate is getting warmer. One of the arguments against this reality is the winter bill of 2003-2004 records of the north-eastern United States. It was the “33rd coldest” (Wang & Oppenheimer p. 1) as recorded during winter. But it is impossible to consider a single record of a particular small place for the cooling climate of earth. Another myth regarding global warming is that the high temperature should be considered as the cycle of earth and nature. They are advocating “Medival Warm Period (MWP)” (Wang & Oppenheimer p. 1) that is ad .1000 to 14, 00 experienced high temperatures than present days. Unfortunately, there is no scientific proof for it and the available sources in regarding to this subject do not indicate that medieval period is warmer than this era. People who were believing global warming is only a myth, states that the reasons of high temperature of atmosphere is due to the factors in universe such as the increasing high rate of “sunlight” and “sunspots”, low rate of “cosmic rays”. Sunspots are the reason for “ultraviolet radiation”. It will reach the lower portion of environment and it will burn up all the living beings by the “ozone layers” (Robinson et al. p.1). One tries to protect the spices and plants from the UV radiation rays. But the sunspots are destroying the protection layers Heat production by the greenhouse gases and the rays from sun are warming the earth. . Actually the reality is the urbanized lifestyle of man and industrialization which are the main reasons for earth warming. These are the factors which increases sunlight and sunspots. “Greenhouse gases” produced by human being is the main cause for warmed nature. The myth states that living being of earth will absorb the changes of atmosphere and they are capable of adjustments like they survived the climatic changes of previous years. But in earth at a very high temperature it is impossible to survive by everyone from the climate as the changes are making side effects to the eco system- living beings, spices and plants. But it doesn’t mean that every spices and plants have survived. The changes of nature have destroyed “various civilizations” in the world earlier, for e.g. Indus Valley civilization and Mesopotamian civilization. In modern days of this era, developed countries will survive from the global warming problems and to the extent with their advanced knowledge and facilities. But the poor third-world countries will face major issues. Still it’s the one cause of making refugees. Thus, global warming is a reason for the poor living conditions. Water issues and poverty are the problems occurring at society because of enviournmental rapid changes and climate change is a side effect of global warming. The myth has always denied the role of Greenhouse gases (GHGs). Greenhouse gases contain “carbon dioxide” some “other substance” (Robinson et al. p.1). and various forms of water. Role of greenhouse gases as produced by man is playing a very important role at warming earth. The myth has always indicated that global warming is only a part of the nature of earth and universe. It doesn’t give any importance to the role of human being and their lifestyle and it attacks the eco-system of earth. But the fact is that the growth of industrialization and the high “concentration of carbon dioxide” (Wang & Oppenheimer p. 1) are playing a major role in warming earth. Urbanized life style and agriculture by man is the reason for the removal and cutting trees from the earth. It affects the global atmosphere. The myth does not believe that the human beings can control the environment and nature. But it is scientifically proved that the side effects of greenhouse gases to climate. And the consumption of carbon dioxide is also increasing. Thus, greenhouse gases changes the earth to warm and “non-ice age climate” (Wang & Oppenheimer p. 1). There are myths which are spreading in regard to the global warming is quite disappointing. It is spreading like a fiction and under educated people blindly believes it. But there are strategies which are behind these rumors and myths. Lobby groups of various industries, the rapid attention seeking mass-media, the tricks of political parties are some agencies, who making factions for their survival Environmentalist and businessman Paul Gildin is telling that we don’t need to worry about the “polar bears” (Rice p.1). In his statements he is saying that the nature in itself is controlling its work. The human should concentrate his work. But human beings have thinking capacity and that they are curious about their society and enviournment. The industrialization and greenhouse gases have made various problems for the ozone layers of their atmosphere. And the human beings are having various social and environment issues at their life. The experience is never a myth. So from their experiences they are starting the enquiries for their better living condition. Since, global warming is affecting the nature in a drastic manner. The ecosystem of earth is balancing all the living beings of the earth. For various needs, man is cutting the trees, plants and it unbalances the ecosystem of the earth. The soil buildings are designed by man, removing carbon dioxide which is putting down the ecosystem and it is considered as the reason for global warming. In specific oceans, the scientists were checking the quantity of carbon dioxide “since about 1957” (Rice p.7) and the report shows it every year the rate of carbon dioxide is increasing. “Hockey stick” (Wang & Oppenheimer p. 1) graph by Michael Mann is the biggest controversy in the global warming studies in this graphical representation. Mann sketched the earth warming like the shape of a hockey stick. The studies shows the previous “4, 000, 00 years” (Rice p.7). The earth faced four ice ages. And according to the hockey graphic presentation the earth will decrease its heat and faced another ice age. But this is also considered as a myth since; the rapid climatic changes in earth are not scientifically proved by the studies. Works Cited Robinson, A. B. et al.
