Introduction

This is why a child raised by parents who show violent behaviors frequently, are unsocial and carry out emotional and/or physical abuse are more likely to be violent when they become adults. Poverty is another cause as it leads towards stress and this ultimately leads to a life of violence and crime. Lack of positive activity can also lead to violent behavior. As they say, “An empty mind is a devil’s workshop”. When unemployed and having nothing to do, individuals tend to go towards destructive activities to take out their frustration, violence being one of those destructive activities. Drug abuse is also one of the factors leading to violence in the US as it renders an individual partially insane for a period of time. During that time the individual commits acts of violence and other undesired acts which he/she would not indulge in if in sober state. In the above discussion various determinants are discussed while are causes of violent behaviors; parental influence being an example of environmental determinant, poverty that of economic determinant, unemployment being an example of economic as well as social determinant, and drug abuse being as example of individual determinant. It is interesting to note how these determinants influence one another. Individual determinant, for instance drug abuse, can lead to economic determinants such as poverty. ...
