Due Goals for improving your Interpersonal Communication Communication is an important part of everyone’s life. Good inter personal communication skills have become a key requirement everywhere whether it’s a job interview, a group discussion, report writing or a presentation. We need to learn some good inter personal skills especially when face difficult situations where we realize a need for improvement. We all have certain goals in life which we wish to achieve for me improving my interpersonal communication skills is one of them.

For achieving any goal we need to work very hard for it. Goal I – Convey Ideas:For goal one: In order to express my ideas to someone I need to learn how to convey them in a concise way by not taking much time and making everyone understand my point of view. This happens to most of the students like me in class and in their everyday lives. When we communicate with a group of people we are purely communicating in simple words which eventually become our idea or give it a meaning and are conveyed to other people easily.

Other people might use the same words which makes the same sense at the same time. These words and ideas reflect an individual’s background because when we communicate we are not just communicating with words but our gesture, body language, delivery style is also judged. People actually judge us by our behavior, no body reads the brain. We are watched out by the people even if a single wrong word is delivered by us whether it’s professional field, student life or a social forum. This part makes an individual better at interpersonal communication and prepares students like me for their career and professional life.

Progress to attain Goal I:I have started to communicate with people at every level in order to view things at a broader perspective and while interacting it gives me an overview of how individual thinks and about their mind set (Devito 65). I need to have 100 percent knowledge and information about the topic or event being discussed. “You start with the audience and you end with the audience”Goal II – Abstract Ideas:In connection to the above goal the ideas that I want to convey should be constructive and conceptual that makes sense to others.

Progress to attain Goal II:In order to attain this goal I have started to work on my reading skills so that to get a better grip on communication and language skills. Also to get your memory refreshed with knowledge (subscribe to news paper or journals). By reading books one can help develop creativity. To get a better idea of other people interest and area we need to read about different types of people (Devito 105-108). For instance; if I am communicating in a group who belong to different fields I should know their mind set in order to explain my idea else it would never sound relevant to them.

Goal III – Self Disclosure:To share my perception with someone I need to be open in a way that others find me friendly and which results in strong building of relationships. All this require self confidence and increasing the social circle. Communication can even fail; people might not understand me reason being because either I am not open to them or they understood in different way means the conversation lacks at explaining the point of view (McKay 70).Progress to attain Goal III:Too much information or incomplete information of anything/area can be dangerous for my future.

Even if not dangerous; nobody is interested in listening to your part which is not relevant to them hence; a person should disclose oneself to some extent that the basis or idea you are trying to explain is achieved and understood by the audience you are interacting with. “A good speaker is a good listener too”Success:To me success is reaching the goals I have set. When we achieve success it makes us self satisfied. The more we work the nearer we get to our goals and success. I have achieved success at a certain level that now I feel no shame communicating with people which has result in good relationships.

Now when I interact with someone I give importance to the message. I am still improving on effective communication skills day by day as there is no life without communication. “There’s always a room for improvement for everyone”ReferencesDeVito, J. A. . The interpersonal communication book.. 12th ed. boston: Allyn and Bacon, 2009. Print. Matthew McKay . The Communication Skills . USA: New Harbinger Publications, 2009. Print.
