Also, musician Marco Thompson was in the lead for the campaign. Other avenues used were radios, TVs and newspapers. The initiative was to collect signatures as directed by the constitution which would enable them request parliament for a referendum to ban same-sex marriages. The referendum sought to redefine marriage in the constitution as a union between a man and a woman and anything short of that would not be considered a marriage. This move threatened the gay associations in matrimony. This come about after Europe and France legalized gay marriages and the Roman Catholic Church in Croatia initiated a move to prevent legalization of gay marriages in Croatia.

The imitative solicited the support of masses of individuals, civil movements, associations and groups so as to support the referendum which will see the constitution ban gay marriages. This was to protect future generations which were being threatened by same-sex marriages. The move of the Roman Catholic Church to ban same-sex marriages in Croatia goes against individual freedom and rights. The constitution is supposed to protect minority individuals the same way it protects the rights of the majority.

The gay people are the minority and therefore, the constitution should not be based on the protection of the rights of the majority only. In this case, the referendum question which was to promote only marriages between a man and a woman was a violation of the fundamental principles of equality, freedom of choice and sex equality in the constitution. The move of the Croatia Roman Catholic Church to subject the motion into a majority vote was against human rights as it was demining the rights of the minorities to their freedom and rights.
