Ethics in interpersonal communication gives an individual the freedom to make their own choices based on the available information. Guidelines for interpersonal communication are for individuals to listen carefully, ensure honesty and monitor their communication. Applying these guidelines ensure that no conflicts arise as a result of misinterpretations hence ensuring that conflicts will be avoided by all means (Julia, 26).   Julia (31) outlines the guidelines for interpersonal communication as for one to develop a range of skills in communication to enhance their communication. One should also monitor their communication to ensure that they remain relevant, and the last guideline is the application of ethics in interpersonal communication.   Physical needs, safety needs, and the need for belonging are the three needs that can be met through communication. This is because they involve interaction with other people and for these needs to be met communication must be enhanced. For instance, the need for self-belonging is the most important as everyone wants to feel wanted (Julia, 10).   Accuracy of perceptions can be increased by avoiding making assumptions and taking the initiative to understand the other person. Avoiding being biased and being open-minded will also eliminate a lot of assumptions and provide information based on facts. Taking perceptions as being subjective rather than objective. One should also Distinguish facts from personal opinions will also lead to the accuracy of perceptions. For instance, an individual can be judged based on their racial background with the assumption that people from a certain group have particular behavior. To ensure that accuracy is maintained, one should take one as an individual and understand them without referring to their racial background (Julia, 31).   One of the symbols of interpersonal communication is the society where one's social acts communicate a certain message. Self-image is also a symbol where people seek to improve their self-image and protect their reputation. Another symbol is the mind where people have different thoughts and perceptions towards certain issues.                                                              Question 7 Non-verbal communication can be intentionally used by individuals when communicating with each other, in a public setting and they do not want other people to understand their conversations. Non-verbal communication can also be non-intentional as different non-verbal languages may have different meanings in different cultures. For instance, waving in America is interpreted as a friendly way of greeting someone who is far while in North Africa, it is considered an act of disobedience. This shows how non-verbal communication can communicate different messages without individuals having any intention.    A facial expression is a form of non-verbal communication, and it is the same across all cultures. Haptic is another form of non-verbal language that involves communication through touch. Touch communicates affection and familiarity and this form of communication is valued in all cultures. Paralinguistic is another form of non-verbal communication that is mainly vocal and uses pitch and inflections to pass messages. (Julia, 178).   Three types of relationships exist, and they include blood relationships, friendship, and intimate relationships. Blood relations are the strongest relationships among all other relations. Julia (245) outlines that relationships can change with time and friends can even become closer than siblings. In some instances, one relationship can develop into another and vice versa, and a good example is friendship maturing into intimate relationships. Another theory is the uncertainty reduction theory which seeks to eliminate a lot of suspicion and ensure that people understand each other well.
