The Toyota FJ Cruiser is its closest competitor with its similar off-road and SUV qualities, which are reminiscent of the FJ40 Land Cruisers. The car is built by Hino Motors, a Toyota subsidiary, in Japan and has shared numerous underpinnings of structure with the Toyota Prado (Wenzel & Ross 62). It debuted in its final form of production in 2006, following its introduction in 2003 as a concept car. Moreover, it has been the Jeep Wrangler’s fiercest competitor in the SUV off-road category ever since.

The Jeep Wrangler has undergone several remodeling since it made its debut during the 1940s with the current one undergoing a complete redesign in 2007. This redesign saw the very first jeep with four doors in its entire history, although two-door Jeep Wranglers are still available in the market (Consumers Union of United States 32). This was achieved by transforming its JK platform chassis, which widened the Wrangler’s track by some 86 mm compared to earlier Wrangler models. In addition, to cope with this widened chassis, Wrangler tires from the factory were also enhanced to 32 inches for the two-door model, while the four-door model’s wheelbase was widened to 2,950 mm.

This had the result of widening its rear seat area to sit more people more comfortably. Following Chrysler’s decision to move the Wrangler’s production plant to its Toledo Complex, the SUV became distinctly different from its earlier models, especially with regards to the grille angle that had a grille angling towards the top, continuing in a straight line from the center all through to the bottom of the grille (Consumers Union of United States 32). The earlier models’ grilles were flat and even with the front Enders.
