MEDIA ARTIFACT ANALYSIS affiliation Introduction Media artifacts can be defined as infrastructures that comprise three components working as one, there is the artifacts or rather devices which are used to communicate or in another language convey information, this involves the activities together with practices that attract individuals engage to communicate as they share information. Then there is the component of social arrangements or in other words organizational forms which at the end of the day develop all around the above devices and practices in general. Nowadays there is new technologies on digital media is becoming more complicated because is teaching today’s generation how to live entirely depending on virtual reality which is associated with time-saving simulation of actual real experience that enable to face time with genuine people (Berger, 2012). As a child everybody remembers spending a lot of time in front of a television and all over sudden your parent comes from nowhere yelling at you sending you outside to play with other kids. The reason behind this was to discourage you get addicted to the television but go outside and have fun as you have real life experience with other kids. This experience helped as to have a chance of interacting and learning from others as we socialize (Ball & Helbing, 2012). The twoube with Twitters is now a trend parody of a current popular online social networking application known as Twitter. This application enables an individual to update their status and activities constantly anytime they feel like throughout the day. When it was first discovered and came into the scene in 2006 after some few years of getting ready the site has cemented following and became home for many global chatter. Culture With the modern culture where convenience is key, the dependence on Twitter is high from the television all the way to billboards, it has proved to be a free platform for marketing of all kind of business, it provides people with an opportunity to always keep in touch anywhere with friends and families, and therefore, Twitter gives something for everyone. The main condition while using Twitter is to within its limit of about 140 characters when posting your massages. The massages or as they are known as “tweets” being the language used are posted regularly on Twitter’s timeline in real time, here is where tweets originating from followers are contained although there are a number of Twitter’s applications that an individual can download for both cell phones as well as computers (Dijck, 2013). The following are the powerful influences of Twitter in our culture today and society at large as illustrated bellow; http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-24802766 The Hashtag Revolution To some the Twitter platform saves as a place to inform the world personal events although its user’s base is limited due to facebook still there is no any other social network that has broad influence than Twitter. Before Twitter, the initial # key was not popularly used of now but it was widely used on telephone as a way denoting numbers but at the moment hashtag is now popular in use as a definitive way of grouping tweets according to the topic. Therefore hashtag-by-hashtag is just a clear way Twitter has changed the world. Business Twitter has revolutionized the way the way business is conducted with greater margin, the days of complaining at work or product through sending of letters then stay for 30 days waiting is over. That was in the past, but at present we can whinge without wasting time at companies is their products are not up to standard, this cause firms to live in constant fear if at all the complain goes viral. Press offices all over the world try to avoid a Twitterstom, this is so because a wave that crop up due to negative tweets may carry a lot of embarrassment to the firm. As appositive move it can be an interesting but effective way of provoking the firm to review and change its policy. On the other hand social media inclusive of Twitter is now an arena that is used to predict the upcoming future value related to business. Through analyzing the firehose now the researches claim that it is now possible to come up with an educated guess the upcoming performance of the stocks approximately up to 6days ahead. Politics The British prime minister is on record to have dismissed the power of Twitter 4years ago, but now David Cameron has joined the service under Twitter as the popular politician. Twitter has now branded its self to be the famous digital soapox and a platform for politicians to interact directly with the mass as they give major announcements. The social media and specifically Twitter is a very important tool for politicians, for instance, during the re-election of the United State of America President Barak Obama had to hire specialist that concentrated on analyzing tweets and at the same time status updates across US. After his victory over republican opponent Mitt Romney, it was the work of the tweet that the president posted, in which he was hugging his wife that was announced to break the record as the one with the highest number of tweets. Twitter is able to win an election single handedly because the platform on its own stands to be the most effective in terms of campaign tools, it is better placed in reaching voters whom in one way or the other are not able or unlikely to pay more attention frequent party political broadcast. Although it can be of great advantage (Dijck, 2013), Twitter platforms get some scope of abuse, the intention that is created by the political movement as “stroturf”, offer some individual money for the favor of support as genuine devotee but indeed they are not, twitter is still growing as a giant tool in social media.. Breaking News The Twitter’s influence on society in term of transfer of information through new is immense, this is because, and the big news often breaks to audience first through Twitter, for instance, the raid that smoked Osama Bin Laden spread like bush fire within minutes, the regular tweets that take place daily starts as a base for the day news story, the same happens to stories about celebrities bum. All over the world now thousands of newsrooms value Twitter and social media in general as a key source of information and broadcasting platform, something that was not in existence five years ago (In Issa, In Isaias & In Kommers, 2014). In fact, is unbelievable that social media at the moment one of the platform that is important to journalists to an extend where they are reminded not to let the stories go, they are running up and down every time passing on breaking news to responsible individual on the news desk before posting them for millions waiting on social media online networks, this has caused our society to move with time of instant information sharing and always being updated, the culture of waiting for the new day new paper has now become past though still exist. The only challenge face with this platform is the conformation that whatever tweets they are carry some facts and they are true, this always comes as a challenge for media houses to verify (Parmelee & Bichard, 2013). Write away from the doctored photographs all the way to fake accounts brings a lot of havoc is not verified with care. Twitter has also been a place of killing and burying public figures and celebrities, it creates wrong image and impression about individuals Jon Bon, for instance, Jovi together with Morgan Freeman were announced dead on twitter yet they were alive, their grisly ends was released as a shock to many. Popular actor Jeff Goldblum received his worst shock as rumors went viral about his death to the point that he was forced to appear Celebrities and Professional Athletes It will not be fare not to examine the influence and the obsession created by the celebrities as well as professional athletes, huge numbers of footballers in most cases are seen more than heard of, however, English Premier League consist about 20 clubs at the moment active on Twitter together with their first team players, this number comprises of more than half verified accounts. This indicate that a large following of fans consider their celebrities to be their heroes and they stay close. it makes somebody wonder if a tweet come from Manchester United and specifically originates from England striker’s account Wayne Rooney new branded hair style, there you will see (“harked the sun”, Manu), the tweets comes many in different style of wording to show the popularity and the celebrity royalty which the journalists access and construct their news although this sometimes comes with the price to this celebrities depending on what they tweet since the sporting events act as an arena where people gather together but to some it becomes an obsession or too much more than sports but personality (In Hepp, et al, 2014). In April of 2009 the first ever Twitter user to be on top by clocking the highest followers of about one million was actor Ashton Kutcher followed by others like Katy Perry at 46,700,000 followers and more, the picture that comes out here is that there is a growing trend of celebrities using Twitter as a media to create more fans for their own popularity and this twitter is credited for this mainstream audience service although it has amplified the influence to society both negative and positive in terms of culture, fashion, crime etc. all available scientific studies point at social media to bear the greatest influence on the culture of today’s generation and Twitter to be specific through celebs (Cross, 2011). Conclusion The purpose behind this paper is mainly to examine the power of social media focusing on Twitter’s influence of culture and society at large. Mass communication has now been regarded in the modern generation as one of the necessity of life; people depend on knowing what trends on or what is the next news and share information on either music artist together with upcoming events, they use the platform to communicate to fans as they promote their new projects. The following for certain individuals especially celebrities grows day and night because of the platform, cultural influence due to easy access of information has now become close to impossible, news into hundreds of media houses is now like never before due to easy interaction with the listener’s contributions. The whole society is now fired up with the technology information sharing. References Berger, A. A. (2012). Media and society: A critical perspective. Lanham: Rowman & Littlefield Publishers.
