The Relationship between Culture and Technology 1.0 Introduction New Media is the term employed to describe the internet and the interplay between technology, sound and images. In reality, the meaning of the new media changes every day as this will continue to change people lives and their thoughts. According to Pinchot, Paullet and Rota (2010), new media morphs and evolves unceasingly. With the intention to comprehend amorphous and complex concept, in this current study, the telegraph and Facebook will be employed as the media technologies in order to analyze the relationship between technological change and cultural change. The topic is based on the development and forms of old media which indicates the technological development in the old era. This will be compared with the temporary social network technologies such as the Facebook. This will be developed with the intention to observe the technological development along the time and the cultural change relied on the technological development. Furthermore, this paper will provide the understanding of cultural changes such as what individual’s daily life changes along with the technological development. This will examine the individual’s lifestyle in today’s world and what has changed and their relations with technologies. Thus, this current study will summarize the media development and the relationship between technological and cultural change. Overall, this present study is based on the relationship between old and new media technologies and their associated cultural practices. 2.0 Discussion 2.1 Development of Old Media and New Media According to Mesch (2009), new media shapes many ways to communicate and interact with each other. It is identified that interactivity is considered as central to new media which include letters to the editor, radio and television talk shows, computer and technological programme and listener participation in such programs. In accordance of Pinchot, Paullet and Rota (2010), it is identified that old media interactivity was less as radios, television and newspapers did not measure the preferences and opinions of people as communication was considered as conversation. Grossman (2008) argues that people were provided what the media idea and thought is right for them but in today’s world the interactivity degree has enhanced that does not necessarily mean. This means that every media has few interactivity components or elements which mostly do as it is examined by computers which can converse back these days. 2.2 Telegraph and Facebook In accordance of Demiroz (2015), telegraph is now considered as outdated communication system that transmitted electric signals from wires from location to another location which also translated into a message. It is identified that telegraph was invented by Sameul Morse in 1794 (Hamelink, 1997). He was not just the inventor of telegraph but also valued for his contributions to American painting. This system was used semaphore and visual depended on a line of sight for communication and a flag-based alphabet. In the view of Demiroz (2015), it is examined that there were many kinds of telegraph such as optimal telegraph, electric telegraph and crude telegraph. In this current study, telegraph is being employed in the era of old media. This demonstrates that small telegraph companies began functioning in the Midwest, East and South. In 1851, dispatching trains by telegraph was started whereas in the same year Western Union began with such business. In 1881, the postal telegraph system entered in the field of economics and merged with Western Union in 1943. In accordance of Wozniaki (2015), it is identified that until 1877, the telegraph depended upon the fast long-distance communication. This means a rival technology developed would change the face of communication such as telephone. Wise (2006) argue that the temporary social network technologies like Facebook have been used by majority individuals. It is identified that people tend to use Facebook in order to share their thoughts and keep their ideas alive. It can be said that Facebook archives work as a living record that keeps persons thoughts alive for everyone to read as well as their teachers, parents and potential employers. In order to say that Facebook provide no-worry social media experience is technically inaccurate. Facebook decreases the odd of negative results but do not remove them. In the study of Mesch (2009), it is identified that Facebook was launched in 2006 and is measured as the first to be specific to a social network. Pinchot, Paullet and Rota (2010) identifies that Facebook allow videos that shows people being decapitated and shared their video on its site. It is examined that social media network had introduced a temporary ban which demonstrates that clips could cause long-term psychological harm. In accordance of Grossman (2008), Facebook has been a place where individuals share their experiences specifically when they are connected to controversial events on the ground such as acts of terrorism, violent events and other human right abuses. It is examined that Individuals are imparting the features on Facebook to censure it. In the event that the feature was being commended, or the activities in it energized, the approach would be distinctive. According to Mesch (2009), few individuals object to realistic feature of this nature, some companies are functioning to give individuals extra control over the substance they see. This may incorporate cautioning them ahead of time that the picture they are going to see contains realistic substance." Execution features are accessible somewhere else on the net but critics have elevated concern that Facebook's news feeds and other sharing capacities mean, it is especially adroit at spreading such material. In understanding of Pinchot, Paullet and Rota (2010), Facebook has taken leave of its faculties. Those features will fuel innumerable bad dreams among the youthful. It can be said that the thought of Facebook issuing a comparative cover boycott had also concerned some right to speak freely campaigners who had recommended that it was the obligation of parents - not the organization - to ensure youngsters on the web. It demonstrates how much Facebook is in energy to choose whatever will or won't be communicated through its system. Conversely, in the study of Wise (2006), the French advanced rights bunch La Quadrature du Net said it was still worried that Facebook was maintaining all authority to bring down the features if it brought issue with the way they were exhibited. 2.3 People Daily Life Changes The advancement and change of technology has incredibly enhanced individual lives. It has prompted a far superior, simpler and extremely agreeable life for the individuals. There are different ways through which technological development has changed people lives. This means that the ascent of the web development has enhanced day by day lives of individuals in a lot of ways. The world business and exchange has gotten to be quick, simpler and more solid. In accordance of Wozniaki (2015), social networking sites are the request of the day these days. Sites like twitter and facebook have conceived the new idea of social networking marketing. The business systems networks and new individual online have incredibly been made enhanced. Meeting the new individuals online has offered path to the ascent of the billion dollar industry of dating. In the view of Demiroz (2015), communication has been made simpler for instance the Facebook has brought chatting facility. As opposed to sending an email to individual destinations, it is very easy to chat which will be gotten in a second. 2.3.1 Relation of People with Technologies In accordance of Grossman (2008), the social networking websites represents individual and organization that also demonstrates the relations between them. The relations could be money, love or influence whereas it is identified that chatting is the most useful contact to maintain persons and groups. Facebook is measured as the main social network that helps individuals to share their lives, but it most likely made history. People usually have photographs, their considerations, most loved features, films, and books what used to be close to home is presently put on their social profile whereas everybody is blameworthy of oversharing at some point. People have been sharing online for quite a long time; it’s getting less demanding and simpler. With small scale PCs and great cams in just about everyone's pocket, the capacity to share is dependably easy for people. Facebook has since quite a while ago given an outlet to individuals to expose. In 2013, Facebook clients imparted give or take 41,000 posts every second, as indicated by internet publicizing organization Qmee — that is more than 2.4 million posts every minute (Pinchot, Paullet and Rota, 2010). Personal relationships have never been simple but since the conception of Facebook, they have gotten more confused than any other time in recent memory. As indicated by Mesch (2009), Facebook offers an assortment of relationship statuses which implies clients will be recorded as single, in a relationship, "it’s complicated," engaged, married with, and so on. Because of the way that Facebook has gotten to be such an expansive piece of people lives, relationship status has in like manner ended up critical to numerous couples. Actually, another term has even been authored to portray the share of a relationship: Couples are no more going consistent or dating however is rather labeled "Facebook Official. 2.3.2 Relationship Between Technological Change and Cultural Change Figure 1: Relation Between Technological Change and Cultural Change According to Grossman (2008), the relationship between technological and cultural change is viewed as forming a background or context concerning about the development of technologies. The main focus of this relationship is the technological development in which infrastructural, technical and policy situations lead to new technical processes. On the other hand, culture comes into play only in the accordance of technology and technical policy decisions. Pinchot, Paullet and Rota (2010) explains that cultural critique of technology is considered as the widespread mechanization of the organization, the subsequent replacement of the employee, the depersonalization of productive work with a machine. It is identified that technology cultural critique is one in which the non-cultural components or elements are judged, evaluated and forced into new directions. But, dynamic relationship between technology and culture means that technologies change the culture that uses them. This demonstrates that change in culture is for the improvement or there would be no reason to employ the new technology. As per Wozniaki (2015), humans have a tendency to focus on short run rather than long-term consequences. The result of biological tendency is to predict how technologies can impact culture. It is identified that technologies have impacted the peoples culture which often seen as desirable in the short term for individuals to change the natural environment on an extraordinary scale. It is examined that simplest technologies can also change culture whereas human environment is considered as a part of culture. 3.0 Conclusion It can be concluded that old media interactivity was less as radios, television and newspapers did not measure the preferences and opinions of people. It is examined that telegraph depended upon the fast long-distance communication. It can be said that cultural change affects the business idea of an organization which concerns the meaning for customers, the strengths and identity of the organization, the social meaning, the position with regard to other organizations. It is evident that companies that are successful in gaining the cultural change and concern about the what their business idea is, what the requirements of their customer are and how these requirements and needs can be satisfied. This demonstrates that customer value is one of the main things in an organization. It is identified that technological development can increase or devalue human existence and culture. On the other hand, it can be said that technological developments such as the internet, computers and visual and sound recording media have been comprised and greeted by indegeous individuals. It can be said that people tend to use Facebook in order to share their thoughts and keep their ideas alive whereas technologies have impacted the peoples culture which often seen as desirable in the short term for individuals to change the natural environment. It can be said that Facebook allow friends to track each other and stay connected. 4.0 Works Cited Demiroz, A. B., The Relationship between Culture and Technology.
