Extract of sample "Interest in Legal Education"

A law degree represents an academic degree conferred for studies in law. Legal education exposes one to a broad range of legal subjects such as contracts, procedure, torts, evidence, corporate law, constitutional law, jurisdiction, commercial law, and administrative law.  Furthermore, legal education presents one with abroad range of perspectives critical to functioning fully in society. Lawyers play a critical role in society, and society possesses a responsibility to educate its legal minds.  Indeed, law plays a fundamental role in shaping society’s civilization. In the same way that nature manifests its own laws, so does society, whereby law shapes the basis of human civilization. The training of lawyers can be regarded as a public good given that society possesses a deep interest in the competence of lawyers, especially based on the capability of lawyers to serve society and clients and in their values. Society has a deep concern in the discipline of law, which demonstrates the importance of lawyers in ensuring the proper functioning of an ordered society.  The paper details my interest in legal education and how I visualize myself using my law degree in the future.

Discussion

I am confident of the fact that I enjoy studying law and convinced that law school has been worth the investment of my time and tuition.  Law school has been an immensely rewarding intellectual experience that has created numerous professional opportunities for me.  Studying law has altered my entire pattern of thinking to the effect that I am strategic in my approach to issues. Indeed, the law can be perceived to be a universal solvent that mixes with all disciplines in some way, and all things mix with law. A law degree paves way for a broad array of career opportunities within a broad range of fields (Barnett, 2011). Indeed, studying law has been more than the mere pursuit of a new career direction; studying law paves way for the understanding of the levers of power within the society in a manner that is efficient compared to a career in political science. This derives from the fact that law is directly anchored in power and supplants every sphere of life. Consequently, the law is pertinent to the way of life and cannot be divorced from all spheres of life.  Studying law has awarded me an opportunity to develop a powerful sense of justice motivated by the urge to iron out the defects that are inherent in the system, and constructively and effectively seek to amend those defects. Hence, studying law has awarded me the opportunity to make a difference in the world, especially when it comes to introducing policy and law reform in areas that do not work for justice (Barnett, 2011).

Studying law has provided me with intellectual skills that can provide a decisive advantage in whichever career that one moves into. Although the legal system cannot be passed as entirely perfect in every respect, legal systems remain at the forefront in restraining unfettered power in many respects, especially when it comes to curtailing corruption and abuse of power (Barnett, 2011).   Lawyers play a critical role in holding the government and multinationals accountable in the exercise of their power.  Personally, I have chosen to utilize my law degree in the area of international law in working with multinational corporations and responding to international issues such as human rights, especially based on the acts and/or omissions of multinational corporations in the arena of environmental protection and violation of human rights.   My principal interest in law practice centers on private international law related to the resolution of the conflict of laws.

Legal practice plays an essential role in challenging the intellect, requiring the exercise of judgment and reason.  The ethics of the law profession demands that law practitioners foster equality, justice, and morality, which mirrors issues that are of pertinent significance to society.  Issues centering on global law and justice have dominated public debates to a higher level than ever before. At the heart of this debate have been the relationships between private individuals, associations, and commercial organizations.  I believe that working as an international lawyer will be exciting, and will avail high levels of job satisfaction.

Conclusion

Law can be regarded to perform diverse functions, each of which bears a tremendous bearing to societal welfare: defending individuals from evil as evidenced by the Nuremberg Trials and creation of the Internal Criminal Court; fostering the common good; resolving disputes; and, stimulating people to do the right thing.  There is a broad acceptance that the wealth and health of nations are highly dependent on how far the rule of law is sustained and observed.  A law degree possesses multiple uses within numerous professional contexts. My decision to take up law was the right decision for me based on my interest in human institutions and values.   The skills that I have developed and honed in law school can be regarded as versatile and applicable to numerous professions. I studying law, I have come to the appreciation that the practice of law is itself is a rewarding profession.
