This involves a situation in which a recipient repeats to the instructor what he or she thinks has been said, in order to be sure the words were understood. A strategy to achieve effective emotional linkage is to enquire about the perception of the individual on the conditions or maybe to voice an opinion on how an individual believes the subject looks.

According to Marques, Dhiman, and King (2011), empathetic listening is mainly important in a classroom environment, in which the general principle is that instructors must carry out the teaching operations as students learn. When the instructor and the recipient can participate in a discussion that does not contravene their individual privileges or the rights of their neighbors, then empathy is surely vital. Nevertheless, when either a learner or another individual is trying to take part in a discussion that is unruly and belittles the rights of either participant, then the instructor should be assertive and stamp his or her authority if only to achieve order in the class.

An example of a situation where I listened empathetically was during my first stint at College. The tutor quickly concentrated on classroom organization and struggled to uphold a cool, though participatory, classroom in which case, she supervised the observation of classroom rules. Although this inspired an orderly class in which the students were fairly well-behaved, the tutor tried as much as she could to feel like the students during lessons, by asking them to repeat certain sentences after her, during the lessons.
