Despite such rivalry, the family has maintained its dominance in relation to its influence over the other crime families within and outside New York. The other crime families include; Buffalo, Patriarca and Philadelphia. The current Luciano Family is believed to have been founded by Lucky Luciano. The family maintained its name until 1957 when it was renamed to Genovese after the boss at that time; Vito Genovese. The family is associated with its traditional control over the West Manhattan side including Fulton Fish Market and its activities remained under the Vincent “the Chin” Gigante who was commonly referred to as the “Oddfather”.

The Odd father is remembered for his feigned insanity across Greenwich Village in New York by shuffling unshaven while having a tattered bath robe on as he muttered incoherently to himself.
