Contract Law al Affiliation: Contract Law is an important facet that governs the business world. Through contract law, theobligations, responsibilities and expectations of the parties involved in a transaction or agreement can be clearly laid out, highlighting any kind of compensation and/or punishment that the given stakeholders are subject to, upon the breach of the initial agreement stated by the parties involved. The 1986 movie “Gung Ho” is about an American car manufacturing plant in Hadleyville, Pennsylvania that has been bought out by a Japanese firm.

The corporation decides to close the plant making hundreds of individuals from the area jobless. Hunt Stevenson, the plants now former foreman, travels all the way to Tokyo in an attempt to convince the corporation to restart operations on the Hadleyville Plant. Owing to the desperate nature of the laborers, the corporation agrees to reopen the plant, but institutes changes that drastically affect the workers. The new contracts that the workers are issued clearly contradict the law. This movie is relevant to the topic, contract law, by virtue of highlighting the various issues that are associated with contract law.

In the movie, the corporation’s management decided to change elements of their contracts with their workers, making the working conditions literally unbearable. The workers are denied the right to a union, receive lower pay rates than before, each have to learn all the jobs within the factory and are supposed to meet quality standards that are virtually impossible. The management later on decides to loosen up on the standards and harsh regulations that govern the workers on a day-to-day basis.
