Reflective Learning Evaluation The justice system is to the influence of diverseand dynamic factors. In particular, the role played by police departments is paramount to the success of the justice system in any given society. The connection between law, justice, and police is the central theme presented in this course. This course explores police activities and their impact on crime levels in an ever-changing society. In that regard, police administration emerges as a key learning point as far law, justice, and police departments are concerned.

Administrating police forces is a challenging undertaking. This is because police work involves critical social, legal, and political practices, all of which must promote the welfare of the public (Cordner 21). Managing police, therefore, becomes an undertaking that not only focuses on police power and authority, but also on the interests of the people served by the police. This unique feature of police departments isolates them from the usual organizational administration, where client segmentation is evident.

This course highlights key lessons that begin with police work but end up accounting for every member in the society. As earlier mentioned, social, legal, and political factors influence police related practice. At the community level, the police have to establish functional relations with the public. The idea is to foster loyalty, trust, and reliability. On the same, the course presents a scenario where members of the society are defiant or lawbreakers. This puts police at the center of law-abiding citizens and lawbreakers.

Ultimately, the police and police administrations must strategize on how to approach such situations.Legal factors further influence police operations in many different ways. The course highlights that legal provisions vary from one situation to another. This requires police and their administrators to be at par with all legal provisions and/or processes that affect their duties and responsibilities. It is important to remember that the course emphasizes on the benefits of law and police administration in the context of crime reduction and enhanced community welfare (Moore 122-123).

Insights from the course also reveal that police and their administrators ought to be leaders and strategic managers. Effective and efficient policing is not an easy task. Successful police-community communication, community policing, intelligence operations, and problem solving is extremely difficult to realize in the absence of servant leadership, strategic management, and tactic development. This is why police departments and more so police administrators move to adopt relevant aiding tools such as the COMPSTAT Model.

Learning about the COMPSTAT Model and its practice use in New York (McDonald and Sheldon 76-108) was informative. This is a relevant tool for police operations within dynamic societal settings. In essence, COMPSTAT Model and any other police administration practice proves that administrators should be strategic in nature. Contemporary problems require contemporary approaches and/or solutions. At a personal level, this course challenges, motivates and inspires me to be a professional with a dynamic mind.

This is because administrative approaches keep changing as the need arise. Additionally, this course calls for creativity, innovation, and flexibility when it comes to administrative duties and responsibilities.
