In fact, he offers a description of various items in dumpsters such as boxes, bedding, and food. Readers are can be able to relate to possessions of Eighner, since the story captivates them based on the fact that he has no different from the average people. In the last paragraph Eighner applies a formal tone, which depicts the direction of this essay; in fact analysis of this paragraph offers a clear indication of rhetorical strategies application.

This rhetorical strategy varies in terms of tones, analogies, paradoxes, counterpoints and sensory appeals; in fact, this plays the role of drawing readers into a world of poverty. Eighner manages to establish a common perception regarding dumpster life, and he also facilitates his credibility based on his commentary of giving a description of his true experience in this essay.
