In the novel, particularly in the Lestrygonians, a clear hearing of his complaining stomach, as he was looking for some late meal, was depicted. In his journey, he always picks snacks during the evening and late at night to feed his intense craving for food.

And in his voyages around Dublin, he always gets taken by the aromas of street foods. His amazing appetite is a significant characteristic of Bloom throughout the totality of the story in that it is, by and large, directing and leading his thoughts and actions. Nevertheless, Leopold Bloom’s immoderate appetite is just a pinch of his sack of personalities, traits, and attributes. It has been mentioned that readers of the Ulysses know more about Leopold Bloom more than any other characters in the story and even in the entire account of literature.

A good deal of what have been learned about Leopold Bloom are the nasty and disgusting situations that involve him and his body. But this is not actually the real deal: Leopold has also exhibited the trait of cleanliness. At the concluding portions of the Calypso, Bloom displayed this trait by carefully scrutinizing his trousers to ensure that they are neat enough. Also, he always has a good sense of physical hygiene, which precedes his thoughts. And while it is not as directly stated, his value for physical hygiene is detailed by the following lines: “the dark tangled curls of his bush floating, floating hair of the stream around the limp father of thousands, a languid floating flower” (Joyce, 1922).

The preceding statement suggests of Leopold taking a bath in the tub. In fact, the passage describes how he was naked and readers are given view of his penis: “tangled curls of his bush”. Even more, and humorously, Bloom’s sense of cleanliness has been shown in the manner in which he farts. In the closing passages of “Sirens”, it is described how Bloom would cover his tremendous fart with the commotion made by a passing tram. And even more so, he keeps repeating to himself that he has to do Sandow’s Exercise.

When the character of Leopold Bloom first appeared in the Calypso, immediately his traits can be compared to those of Stephen’s.
