I like the way his grandparents refer to him as “Little tree” based on the new environment into which he should adopt. It is highly related to his new environment in the mountains that contain a lot of trees. It also signifies the activities that were done within that area. These include how to hunt, survival in the mountains through the value of the people around and the ways of the Cherokee people. This is done by enhancing respect of nature as he is taught by his grandparents. I also find it intriguing in the way the author fictitiously expresses his view on the need to conserve and preserve nature.

He is also not biased in this idea since he makes it clear that the natives should make use of the environmental constituents albeit responsibly. With this, they will be able to profit, as well as let nature take its course. In my view, the book is a proper resource for young people to understand that they are expected to learn and take positive lessons from their environment. It is shown in the way that the “little tree” learns the callous ways employed by the white business people and the tax collectors.

Through his hilarious steps, Granpa, however, scares them by making illegal attempts to enter the cash economy (18). In addition, Grandma also makes numerous efforts to teach the “Little tree” the pleasure that can be attained from learning and education. It is from this that an interesting aspect of elements of nature such as trees is revealed as not only physical but also emotional. It is shown in the way that before the death of “Little tree’s” Granma, she asks him to feel for her and others who are gone before him in the same way that he feels the trees (62).

With this, a special relation can be established with nature in a way that it brings good memories and relations between people. I, therefore, think that the book is a great insight since it clearly reveals the different perspectives with which a single idea can be seen. Therefore, it is upon the individual to choose the best path to take based on both the theoretical and practical lessons. It is clearly shown when the “Little tree” learns of the cruelty directed towards Indian children when he was taken away by the whites to gain a schooling experience (190).

In converse, what they are trying to do is to assimilate them within their culture instead of enhancing diversity of culture. He also gets to learn the different ways expressed by the Anglo world perception and that which he had obtained from the Cherokee world. The author makes these lessons interesting by expressing them in a catchy way that makes a repetitive way of important phrases for better understanding, emphasis and enjoyment. It is illustrated by the short opinionated statements at the end of the paragraphs such
