The essential element of the play is the portrayal of woman and power in the play and Shakespeare is masterly in dealing with these factors and the other themes in the play. Thus, Lady Macbeth has transcended the gender roles of the time and establishes to develop into the female version of a man in search of prominence. "I have given suck, and know / How tender to love the babe that milks me. / I would, while it was smiling in my face, / Have plucked my nipple from his boneless gums / And dashed the brains out, had I so sworn / As you have done to this.

" (Shakespeare, 1.7.54-59)Macbeth is an important tragedy by Shakespeare which deals with several essential themes such as the corrupting power of unchecked ambition, the relationship between cruelty and masculinity, and the difference between kingship and tyranny. However, the essential theme of the play is the destruction wrought when ambition goes unchecked by moral constraints, which is expressed vividly through the characters of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth.
