Task Road Virus Heads North vs. Good Morning The story “Road Virus Heads North” starts with describing the main character as heis about to attend a certain function, then unexpectedly it starts talking about a picture. This sudden change of events confuses the reader, and it appears as if two stories are being narrated at the same time. The third persona is used in the story as the main character, Kinnell, is sometimes addressed with the adjective “he”. This avoids the monotonous of continuously mentioning his name.

The third persona is evident because the narrator of the story is in direct contact with the characters and the reader cannot tell whether the narrator is a man or woman. Many words are incomplete and do not make sense, for instance, “theu turned to Kinnell’’ (King), then is changed to “theu”, this makes it difficult for the reader to get the message. “Good Morning” starts explosively as the main characters are already in action and are moving. Simple vocabulary is used, thus making it easy for the reader to understand the message.

The use of third persona is shown by use of adjectives such as “he” and “she” in addressing the characters; this avoids the repetitive nature of mentioning the characters name. I know something, the grin said. I know something you never will” (King). Kinnell felt as if the picture was talking to him. Moments of humor are brought about by Aunty Trudy when she asks Kinnell if he will use the bathroom again, this is because she believes Kinnell only visits her place when he want to use the bathroom.

Aunt Trudy shows a moment of fear as she looks at the picture, and immediately covers her eyes and tells Kinnell to put it away. The story “Good Friday” show a moment of concern when Bernadette asks about the where about of the holiness. This is because the holiness has not communicated to them for a long time (Wilson). Bernadette shows fear and confusion as she screams when she sees the teenagers and thinks that they are vampires. There is evidence of grief as the narrator talks about the death of Carole parents.

This made the girls to be close to each other. The two girls show the virtue love and care between them because they did everything together. In the “Road Virus Heads North”, the monster is displayed in the picture bought by Kinnell. “All the time he could feel the picture out of the hall, the picture has somehow bitten him at the back of the head” (King). This shows that Kinnell is constantly thinking about the picture and he cannot ignore it. Kinnell is even talking to himself; this shows how the picture makes him feel disturbed.

It is because of this that he continuously moves around the house talking alone. The picture also displays monster when Kinnell goes to look at it and finds it has changed. The picture appears to have two circles of white headlights hackling at him. In Good Friday, the monster is evident by the way vampires are converting people in northern Europe since they want to control the place. Conclusion The two stories use the third persona in this sense; the narrator in both of the stories is not in direct contact with the characters.

Adjectives such as “he” and “she” are used to address the characters in the two stories. Even though the story “Road Heads Virus North” appears to be difficult to comprehend, it is narrated in a way that makes the reader want to know what will happen next. The story “Good Friday” starts in a climax as the two characters are already in action. The story systematically flows as events unfold one after the other. There is use of the third persona because the narrator is not in direct contact with the main characters.
