Extract of sample "Figurative Language in Poetry of Shakespeare"

Shakespeare even renders the narrator to personify the shining “heaven” with “too hot the eye” in giving symbolic reference to the sun on which some degree of exaggeration is used as the speaker mentions “gold complexion dimm’d” though, in reality, this is beyond possible. This conveys how much the lady means to him that even “every fair from fair sometimes declines”.

On the other hand, Shakespeare’s My Mistress’ Eyes Are Nothing Like the Sun appears to oppose the theme of the other poem in the sense that the ‘mistress’ serves as a subject of distaste to the speaker. It sounds as though love were gone or departed between them due to her betrayal of trust as he necessitates beginning with the simile of comparing what his partner is not to the ‘sun’ which occurs an extreme opposite of the other situation when the beloved is signified to exceed the strong characteristics of the summer. The ‘mistress’, however, receives several unpleasant descriptions as having lips worse than coral’s shade of red, black wires rather than hair, and cheeks in the absence of a rosy glow.
