Modest Proposal Swift suggests in his satirical work “Modest Proposal” that the problems facing the Irish people can besolved by selling their children to the wealthy people after feeding them well to be served as food, he also advices that they breed children for the same as a business since they cannot be taxed. He assures the Irish people that they can make a good profit and live a good life by selling their children who are a burden in addition to their poverty. He satirically points out the problems facing the Irish people and the need to solve them urgently.

The fact that the British landlords had taken much of the land in Ireland because the king of England was reigning up to the land of Ireland, the parliament in Ireland was answerable to the king in England. The Ireland people were working on the farms owned by the British but their wages could not sustain them due to exorbitant rents charged by landlords thus, begging remained the only option. Swift was not happy seeing the people suffer in their own land although he was from England, he had been raised in Dublin where his parents were living.

` The British were intolerant to the people of Ireland. Most British were Protestants as opposed to the Catholics in Ireland and they were happy when as the Catholics became fewer. King James had been deposed as the heir to the throne for granting worshipping rights to Catholics who he refers as a pretender, in Spain. This made Swift believe that the British will be delighted if the Catholics lessened even if it meant slaughtering them. The text sets broadly the atrocities the people of Ireland are going through and yet they are seen as the normal way of life.

The text tries to show people their problems and the need to take an action before their problems overweigh them.Work CitedSwift, Jonathan. Modest Proposal. New York: CreateSpace, 2011. Print.
