The characters find themselves with the choice of choosing the extent of assimilation that they were willing to accept should they adopt this new culture. They worry that it would be a betrayal of their culture. Their self identity crisis is revealed in the in their relationships with their family members and the choices they make about their future. Gogol hates his name and resents other people using it. In the end, Gogol and Mushumi choose to live in Paris after his Yale education. Moreover, the family adopts the practice of adorning Christmas trees which is a defining feature of the American culture.

The Bourne Identity is a depiction of a former spy’s search for his identity. The movie has no clear hero or villain. This is because the lead character, Bourne played by Matt Damon is a trained assassin while the individuals who are trying to kill him are merely doing their jobs. As a result, it is difficult for the viewer to identify one outright villain to hate and a champion to cheer. The movie claims that the CIA changes the names of its agents so that it can rob them of their identity.

It gives them new names as a sign that it controls their actions and they live and serve at its pleasure. For example, Bourne’s desire to discover his identity organization leads to a kill order being placed for him. His physical fight for his identity is similar to the emotional challenges that the characters in The Namesake go through. In addition, both Bourne and his sister face identity crises as a result of choices that they did not make. For Bourne, his name was taken by the CIA who have disrupted his life by changing his identity and preventing him from discovering it.

In the case of Gogol and Sonia, his parents immigrate to the United States and they find themselves stuck between their Indian roots and the Western culture they interacted with everyday. In the end, the self identity crisis has a negative effect on both Bourne and Gogol. For
