Inspired by Ghosts of Hamlets Past “For an actor about to perform perhaps the most difficult role in the theatrical canon, he appeared disconcertingly at ease – maybe a little bored?”In this excerpt Zinoman reveals the complexity of the play, which means that it requires an actor a lot of rehearsal in order to perform the play successfully. Scott shepherd is described in this excerpt as a person who has no worries, taking into consideration the fact that he will take the role of Laertes when Casey Spooner leaves the rehearsal.

Shepherd is also described by the author as a person who appeared disconcertingly at ease and bored, which raises eyebrows if such a person can take up such a huge role. The passion that Shepherd had for theater is revealed when the boredom he had vanishes upon hearing that role of Laertes is left vacant. This was the opportunity that he had been waiting for and he took with a lot of ease.“That the Wooster Group is even doing it is a testament to the influence of Mr. Shepherd, who has always had an obsession with that play, memorizing every word after mounting and performing in a student production at Brown”.

This quote shows the successful performance of the play due to influence of a dedicated actor, Mr. Shepherd, who loves the plays by Shakespeare and has already memorized the play by heart. Mr. Shepherd has a positive influence on the Wooster Group, he appears at ease throughout rehearsal and has an easy time performing to near perfection as he seems as though he had been practicing his lines for months. Mr. Shepherd’s dedication to acting and especially Shakespeare’s plays saw the group perform Hamlet yet they have always avoided Shakespeare for his choice of language in his work.

His commitment to acting and influence to other actors can be illustrated by his acting in long plays such as two-and-a-half-hour Macbeth and six-and-a-half-hour version of The Great Gatsby.Work CitedZinoman, Jason. Inspired by Ghosts of Hamlets Past. New York Times. 28th of October, 2007. Print.
