Postmodernism The term postmodernism in the most basic and simplest sense refers to the concept or a notion of ideas, principles, thoughts and insights which pertain to areas of human wisdom and knowledge. These areas of knowledge include, philosophy, religion, literature, culture and art. In the conventional sense and realm, postmodernism has been viewed as an advancement or improvement of the modern principles and articulations (Cooper and Burrell 91). This is to imply that the contemporary pool of knowledge and information is put to test of reason as rigour.

For instance, it calls for the human mind and wisdom by extension to question the truths and common knowledge of things that have been known to human beings for a long period of time. A practical case and example is an issue such as the view on sacred concepts such as God or any other deity for that matter. It is important to note and assert that postmodernism is correct by allowing the human minds and wisdoms to raise questions and issues on the things that are held sacred while there are held as secular.

Expressly, postmodernism sprung up as a result of modernist reaction which aimed at enlightening people. In all aspects and fairness, modernism was occasioned by the rise of the enlightenment period and the elites in the society (Pennycook, 63). Thus, whatever they viewed as proper or current was followed by the rest of the society in a bid to keep up. The thoughts, ideas and principles of the enlightenment elites formed the basis of knowledge and beliefs of the current times. This is to say that the things that we hold as sacred or secular in this current dispensation of age and time was formed and introduced by the past societies of elites.

One of the tenets and guiding principles of postmodernism is that all things ought to be subjected to rigour and tested against a background proof. This is to say that human beings ought to differentiate for themselves facts from fiction, faith from reason. The irreducible minimum is for the human society to interrogate and critically analyze the issues, concepts and things which were classified as sacred or secular by the past societies to gauge accurately if they fit such a definition and description.

In rhetoric form and sense, postmodernism seeks to enlighten human beings and the society to question the accuracy of the wisdom of the past societies. subsequently, if the past society, say the ten century generation treated something as secular or sacred, then the eighteenth generation treats the same thing otherwise, sacred or secular (Cook, 5). Therefore, what stops the postmodern society from questioning and inquiring why the same thing or issue changes meaning and value as times and seasons change?

In principle, it is important to note and mention that the postmodernism concept is correct because it aims at raising the awareness of human beings and the society. This is critical such that they would justify the consumption of sacred or sacred things with reason and faith.
