Comparison of Poems Robert Creeley became a renowned poet of the 20th century because of his expertise to write poems of unique concision, but that proved to be highly emotional. Creeley adopted a new genre of poetry in which he placed emphasis on life’s distinct phases. William Wordsworth is a renowned English poet has a reputation for an outstanding romantic style. Wordsworth had a preference of connecting human beings to nature. This paper will compare Robert Creeley’s poem titled “The Flower” and William Wordsworths poem titled “I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud”.

Creeley’s poem “The Flower” is outstandingly short but full of meaning. It has only three short stanzas with simple lines in each stanza. A superficial look at the poem can prompt a reader to misjudge the relevance of its content. However, a close analysis of each line and how they are introduced in the first stanza undergoes growth to become evident in the third stanza clearly exhibit Creeley’s expertise. The first line of the poem highlights that the speaker “grows tensions like flowers”.

After introducing the concept of flowers growing, Creeley goes forth to depict the slow growth exhibited by a flower. In the third sentence of the first stanza, the speaker highlights that the flower grows in the woods where nobody visits. In the second stanza, a different concept of how a flower encloses itself, despite its wounds to become an outstanding blossom compares to the pain. In the third stanza, a strong metaphor that relates the pain to a flower appears in the first line. Evidently, a flower undergoes a slow growth that sees it emerge into a blossom.

Looking at the blossom, it is impossible to imagine that there are wounds enclose inside the different layers of the flower. According to Creeley, the imagery that compares the pain to a flower means that the pain develops slowly with each wound in its place, but may be enclosed in such that nobody else can recognize the pain. Evidently, the poem is very short but carries a heavy meaning (1-2). On the other hand, Wordsworths’ poem “I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud” reveals the simple style adopted by the poet.

The poet focuses on subjects that he observes in nature. The plot does not exhibit any complexity because the poet described the daffodils that he discovered in the lake. The poet highlights that nature and human beings have a close association by personifying the daffodils and comparing the speaker to a cloud (23-24). The fact that the speaker experiences a measure of comfort from the memory of the daffodils serves to highlight the close relationship between human beings and nature.I am a Victim of your CharmI feel like an ugly ducklingWhen I approach you or make myself beautifulFor your beauty’s most fascinatingExplicitly natty and elegant like a swan.

I think I grow fascinationFor I fall a victim of your captivationYour casual ways blind meAnd sensual desires stir in me.I fall a victim of your discretionFor Mother Nature painted your IntroversionWith affectionately soft-spoken talkI perceive elegance beauty in you.It bugged out like a flower budBlossomed under tamed acquaintanceshipI nourished and tended itTo an efflorescent of true love.I think I grow a habituationOf your bold bright beauty An emotionally overwhelming beautyWhat makes you beautiful?

In body and soul meritsI find peace and solaceFor with love and philiaI do everything for you.I am a victim of your charmCome on overFor when loves hoverAll is lovely and lustrous.Work CitedCreeley, Robert.
