Summary of the Article The article, “Black or White? a woman’s story stirs up a furor,” by Richard Perez-Pena gives a story of a woman whose identity is debated due to her stand on racial identity. Rachel Dolezal has been having a strong attraction for black since her childhood years, and this was after her parents adopted some black children. I believe that this love for the blacks made Rachel choose a college that could enable her engage in racial issues. Normally, embracing a racial identity that you were not raised in is hard, but Rachel did it.

However, her stand on racial identity led her to the national debate. Ms. Dolezal, the President of N.A.A.C.P and also instructor in African-American studies for many years she has claimed to be partly black (Perez-Pena, par 2). Though, her parents maintain that she is a Caucasian and not a black. Personally, I think that Ms. Dolezal is a unique person that all the people across the world should emulate to end the racial prejudice and discrimination that has ruled the world over the decades. However, this article is crucial for showing that there should be no differences between the white and the blacks, and thus all the people are equal regardless of their racial identity. Ms. Dolezal seems to be a clever woman as she refused to give answers on questions about her racial backgrounds that could affect her in her stand on racial identity.

In America, we have heard of issues of racial discrimination especially for the blacks who are mistreated due to her color and racial background. This story of Rachel Dolezal is a good example for us all to embrace a united racial identity for all. Work Cited Perez-Pena, R. 2015. “Black or White?
