Religion themes in Dantes Inferno and Buddha's instruction texts - Essay Example

The two texts’ emphasis encompasses the essence of religion in an individual’s existence with consideration of the future, though not in this physical world. However, their modes of elaboration diverge significantly due to the culture and period they do represent. Dante’s work from structural point of view introduces a long journey meant for humanity soul’s preparation (IATH & UOV, n.d). This is evident from the protagonist’s confession that he had lost in this life’s entanglements to the extent of staggering away from the life’s path.

Conversely, the other text (Buddha’s instructions) represents an ongoing struggle while in the quest for the truth (Story & Vajirā, 1998). This is evident from the protagonist’s deadly infirmity, which almost terminated his life but managed to survive. Hence, emerging strong whereby he is able to advise and even inquire his disciples whether they have anything that they intend to know from him. This is because his body and age will not allow him to have many years with them, but promises peace on those who will take refuge in Dhamma (Story & Vajirā, 1998).

Besides, the two texts represent varied creeds whose practices vary significantly though their core purposes entail attaining of eternal contentment. This is especially after meticulous soul testing whereby each individual has to undergo, but with the knowledge of what one intends to attain, hence it is a choice. The blessed one represents Hinduism where he acts as a leader and advisor to those who may be intending to follow his exemplar (Story & Vajirā, 1998). ?, 1998). The other text represents medieval Christianity whose period’s spiritual icons taught and even sensitized their congregations about hell and purgatory.

In his work, Dante tries to elaborate on the earthly journey characterized by numerous entanglements that almost swayed him from the truth (IATH & UOV, n.d). In the two texts, the poets assume protagonists’ positions of their respective works. Their role besides relaying the core information entails developing the works’ plots. Since, instead of giving tale of what will happen or happened; they are the key players whereby their souls are undergoing tests meant to merit eternal contentment (IATH & UOV, n.d). Both Dante and Blessed One instead of acting as bystanders they are seeing all through their works conveying in each section or step’s sufferings.
