Fight club is written by Chuck Palahniuk and is basically a darkly funny novel which talks about the story of a god forsaken young man who finds out that his anger at living especially in a world filled with lies and disappointments cannot be pacified by an empty consumer culture which exists. Writer in his text tried to talks about the society where the wealth and class hierarchy is unequal and is divided. The story brings in the relief for the character and disenfranchised peers comes in the form of boxing matches which are held his the bar’s basements secretly.
The narrator in the novel experiences a rebirth in masculinity which is a result of the manifestation of Tyler Durden. This important character in the novel talks about the subconscious of the narrator and his desires which are important and essential part of the masculine identity. The portrayal of power and resistance which is through the mode of destruction is linked with the body which has a strong significance and importance throughout fight club.
Tyler Durden’s brain child is fight club through which he thinks that a way out can be found and his friends as well who live beyond their stultifying and also confining lives. The book talks about the character of Tyler whose world is made without rules, brakes and limits. There are short statements which are peppered throughout the fight club and while the book continues all the readings are pilled in the mind of the reader which slowly yet constantly pushes its readers on the barriers which are created by the society and the people. Fight club is started by a narrator and his home life which in basically talks into account its identity which is created by consumer goods. He has no control over his body which basically makes him an insomniac and also he is not fond of dead end job which is of a recall campaign officer. The character throughout the novel feels trapped and feels like his is disconnected from his gendered identity and is mistreated by the society. There are numerous ideas which are taken into account in the book “Fight club”, from the reason of choosing dead end jobs to questions like the expectations of the ancestors, the reason of going by the book or the norms made by the society. Over all fight club can successfully raise millions of questions in the mind of the readers. Fight club is mocking, honest yet brutal. It is a perfect miracle of topic along with author. Fight club is extremely twisted and dark. Fight club as a book does a brilliant job in precisely and accurately hitting its targets which are the mindless consumerism which are linked with the sublimation of violent urges along with transforming the men into the pale copies of their fathers, over all it is extremely right which undoubtedly makes it a great book. The book holds in it the major and fundamental assumptions of the society which are held up and are majorly hollow and see through as soon as they are accepted through Tyler Durden’s ideas which are in a great manner pulled further into the story. The narrator of Fight Club is not very fond of his life, in fact he hates his job, his life, and he hates the instincts filled with consumerist nesting and the instincts linked with the saturation of life along with it expressing the emotions and sentiments which are important and crucial in the modern world. Life of the narrator takes a turn when he meets Tyler Durden who is an extremely charming man and who has lived his life as totally being an anti consumerist person and leading an anti consumerist lifestyle which is not following or even fond of the pop culture, social structure and also capitalism.
