A leader is a person who might work as a catalyst, in enhancing and controlling the human resources of the organization in an effective way. This is because; the human resource is the prime requirement of any organization operating in any segment and in any region. As human resource are mainly responsible, for the fulfilment of the future goals and objectives of the organization in the market among others. However, it might be possible only if the leader may act tactfully and motivate the employees towards work in order to improve the productivity and image of the organization in the entire market, in-spite of varied types of changes. Only then, the image and profit margin of the organization might get enhanced in the market among other rival players. Moreover, if the changes might be handled in an effective way then the popularity and equity of the organization may be enhanced thereby amplifying its competitiveness in the market to a certain extent in long run among others. Thus, it might be depicted that, leader act as the backbone of the organization that may not only improve the efficiency and capability of the employees but also cope-up with varied types of changes. This essay is mainly divided into five phases that mainly highlights the significance of leadership within an organization. Along with this, it also highlights the role of leadership within a change management situation with the help of models like Kotters 8 steps, Lewin’s change management model. Discussion Evaluation of Change Management and Leadership with models In order to survive in this competitive era, leadership is the most essential requirement. As it acts as a weapon not only stimulate the profit margin and productivity of an organization but also to mitigate varied types of challenges or changes in an effective way. Change management is described as a systematic procedure to deal or tackle varied types of changes or alterations in a successful manner. Moreover, it might also described as an approach that might be handled by implementing varied types of technologies, strategies and procedures so as to mitigate it effectively within the organization. Only then, the productivity and efficiency of the organization might get enhanced thereby amplifying the image and reputation in the market among other rival players. Apart from this, if the changes might be adapted successfully within the organization, only then, the inner morale and confidence of the employees might get enhanced with a significant extent as compared to others. This might help in improvement of their level of performance and efficiency within the organization thereby amplifying the level of retention. It is extremely essential for any organization operating in this competitive age among many other rival players. This is because, the experienced employees are the gems of the organization and they might offer varied types of ideas and suggestions in order to implement the changes in an effective way. Such a situation is also seen within the organization, Biogen Idec Incorporated, at the time of restructuring or reassessment of the business strategies. As a result of which, maximum extent of the employees had to cope up with the procedure of reallocation of their job responsibilities as well as outplacement. Due to which, the relationship within the higher authorities and the employees is fading day by day resulting in amplification of the chances of conflicts and miss-confusions. Not only this, the motivation and dedication of the employees of Biogen Idec is also reducing as their roles and responsibilities are not clearly discussed with them. As a result, their level of performance and productivity of the employees are declining thereby hindering the total output and demand of the organization in the market among other rival players. Along with this, the profitability and reputation of the organization is also declining at a rapid pace thereby enhancing the threat of new entrants and new substitutes in the market. Moreover, as the effectiveness and reliability of the brand is declining, its range of customers is also reducing at a rapid speed. It is extremely difficult for any organization (Biogen Idec) to retain its image and competitiveness in the market by mitigating such a complex situation. However, the organization of Biogen Idec became finally successful in implementing and tackling the change of reassessment in an effective way. It is mainly due to the presence of proper and expert leadership skills within the organization of Biogen Idec as witnessed in the model of Kotter’s 8-step (Von Stamm, 2008, pp. 456-478). According to this change management model, the leader or the manager of the organization is solely responsible for building or developing an environment for change. This is because; he acts as the guiding force that motivates and inspires the employees to act in favour of the change so as to enhance the output or yield of the organization in future era among others. However, it might be possible only if the leader properly communicates and interacts with the employees in an effective way. Then only, he might become able to analyse and evaluate the inner motives and desires of the employees regarding the implementation of the change. And then the change might be implemented effectively within the organization thereby amplifying the prosperity and performance of the employees as well as the brand in a successful way. Such a situation is witnessed within the organization of Biogen Idec. The head of the international business of Biogen Idec comprised of extensive thinking power and confident outlook that proved extremely effective for the organization and its employees. He communicated the positive effects of reassessment among all the members or staffs of the organization of Biogen Idec so as to analyse their underlining ideas and proposals. Along with this, he also reallocated all the duties (administrative functions, regulatory affairs and packaging functions) within the staffs of Biogen Idec in an appropriate way thereby amplifying their inner confidence and dedication power. As a result, the employees acted optimistically towards the change management and it enhanced the total productivity and image of the organization in the market among others (Von Stamm, 2008, pp. 345-367). Apart from this, as per the Lewin’s change management model, change is the most inevitable thing. It is described as the most common thread that occurs within every business environment, irrespective of size, industry and segment. This is mainly due to extensive impacts of globalization and industrialization. And so to cope-up with such industrial changes, the organizations also desire to reallocate or restructure their strategies or policies. Therefore, in order to enhance the brand image and demand of the products, the organization of Biogen Idec decided to reallocate or restructure its policies. However, it seemed extremely risky and troublesome in early stages, but the high determination and enthusiasm of the leader (head of international business), the change became effectively implemented within the organization. He is the only person, who inspired and stimulated the essence of change within the minds of the employees of Biogen Idec by presenting its positive impacts. By doing so, all the employees became extremely motivated towards the change that not only enhanced the productivity but also the performance of the employees. As a result, the employees became highly pleased that amplified their devotion towards their assigned duties and responsibilities. Then the head of international business of Biogen Idec implemented the change of reassessment of the policies and outplacement of varied employees. After implementing the change, varied types of miss-confusions aroused at initial stages but his high negotiating power mitigated it tactfully. Thus, all types of chaos reduced effectively and the productivity enhanced significantly in the market among other rival players. Thus, after implementing the change effectively, all the employees of Biogen Idec obeyed it and the organization gained its image and portfolio again. Hence, it might be easily depicted that both change management and leadership are both interchangeable terms that helps in amplifying the profitability and goodwill of the organization in the market. Critically discuss the role of leadership in change management with theories Leadership and change management are described as the two sides of a coin that may not act separately. If a change management need to be implemented effectively, then leadership skills is the prime guiding force. Without which, an organization may not be able to implement the change in an effective way. As a leader may only convince all other employees or staffs of the organization about the positive impacts of a change. Therefore, it might be clearly depicted that a leader might accomplish the task only due to his or her stirring activities and optimistic behaviours. And so any sort of changes might be effectively implemented within an organization only through tactful leadership skills (Stacey, 2012, pp. 345-456). Leadership is regarded as an art to handle or control the activities of an organization. Not only this, it is also described as the ability to influence all other members of an association or organization to opt for a particular change or activity. However, it might be possible only if the leader tries to share all sorts of information with the employees or staffs of the organization. Then, the leader might analyze varied types of ideas and inner desires of the employees that might prove effective for the organization in near future. Therefore, keeping all those facts in mind, the tactful leader like the head of international business of Biogen Idec inspired the employees towards the change. However, it became possible, only after reallocation of the duties and activities of the employees in an appropriate way. After that, the inner morale and confidence of the employees enhanced thereby making the process of change management effective and fruitful (Russell, 1971, pp. 435-478). Moreover, due to proper allocation of the duties, the level of performance of the employees enhanced to a significant extent resulting in amplification of the demand and prosperity of the organization in the market among others. Thus it is a perfect example of contingency leadership style. Apart from this, the head of international business of Biogen Idec is extremely intelligent and assertive and so he might motivate the employees towards the change. By doing so, the inner confidence and motivation of the employees might get enhanced thereby amplifying the total productivity of the organization (Mabey & Lees, 2007, pp. 345-456). Along with this, the head of the international business of Biogen Idec also comprises of a lot of control and influence over his followers or employees and so the employees or staffs are bound to follow the orders of the superiors. Such type of leadership style entirely resembles the management or transactional leadership style. In this type of leadership style, the leader also presents (head of international business of Biogen Idec) varied types of ideas and policies such as reallocation of HR functions and duties. These ideas proved extremely effective for the organization thereby amplifying its productivity and status in the market among others. Due to the implementation of such types of value-added ideas like alignment of varied operations, the prosperity of the organization might get enhanced in the market among others. Therefore, such type of leadership skills enhances the reputation and brand value of the organization of Biogen Idec in this competitive world among other rival players. And with the help of such type of leadership skills, the policies and strategies of change management might be effectively implemented within the organization (McKimm & Philips, 2009, pp. 456-478). Hence, leadership skills and change management are entirely linked with one- another. Analysis In this age of tough competition, leader with optimistic outlook and high confidence is extremely essential to cope up with varied types of challenges or changes. This is because; with the help of such type of skills, a leader might motivate the employees towards their assigned duties resulting in amplification of their performance (Long, 2012, pp. 345-456). Along with this, the brand image and reputation of the organization might remain retained thereby amplifying its range of customers. Other than this, the leader is entirely responsible for implementing any sort of changes in an effective way so as to maintain a unique culture within the organization of Biogen Idec. This might help an organization to retain its employees in the organization for long run thereby reducing the ratio of attrition to a significant extent. It is extremely essential for any organization to retain its employees as they act as the cornerstone that enhances its efficiency in the market (Isaksen & Tiddy, 2006, pp. 456-489). Therefore, it might be clearly depicted that leader is an individual that might not only inspire the employees but also implement the changes in an effective way. Hence, leadership skills and change management acts with one-another so as to improve the efficiency of the organization in the market among others (Brown, 2007, pp. 356-378). Findings After analysing and evaluating the above mentioned paragraphs, it might be revealed that leadership style of the head of international business of Biogen Idec proved extremely effective for the organization. It might enhance the total productivity and sale of the products of Biogen Idec in the market among others (Beatty & Schneier, 1997, pp. 345-456). Apart from this, the performance of the employees of the organization might also be improved to a certain extent among other rival players. And the profit margin and customer base of the organization of Biogen Idec might also get enhanced thereby amplifying its reputation in the market among other rival players (Culp, 2002, pp. 345-378). And leadership skills might also save an organization from varied types of challenges or changes thereby amplifying its competitiveness in the market among other contenders. Therefore, it might be depicted that leadership skills is the only weapon that might mitigate varied types of threats and risks. Along with this, such skills might also help in implementing varied types of changes within the organization in an effective way. This might enhance the profit margin and brand image of the organization in the market among other rival players (Adair, 2010, pp. 234-345). Conclusion Conclusively, it might be stated that the leadership skills of the head of international business of Biogen Idec is extremely exceptional in nature and characteristics. So it acted as the guiding force for the organization of Biogen Idec that enhanced its status and brand value in the market. This may be proved by analyzing the ways in which the change became successfully implemented within the organization of Biogen Idec. Along with this, it also enhanced the demand of the products of the organization thereby amplifying its range of customers. Moreover, the change of reassessment proved effective for the organization of Biogen Idec in retaining its experienced and talented staffs. Therefore supremacy of the organization of Biogen Idec enhanced among other existing rival players. Other than this, the leadership skills and high level of confidence power acted positively thereby amplifying the inner morale and motivation of the employees of the organization of Biogen Idec. As a result, both the primary and secondary needs of the employees became fulfilled thereby amplifying their devotion towards the organizational goals and objectives. Thus, it might be stated that the organization of Biogen Idec retained its dominancy or supremacy in the market only due to its leaders and employees. And due to coordinated effort of all the members and higher authority staffs of the organization of Biogen Idec might improve its fame and image in the market among all other rival players.
