Lansing Community College MGMT 290 – Time Management CRN Number E-mail Address Telephone Number Discuss and Evaluate Basic Principles and Techniques of Time Management Time management is indeed a very important quotient in the time and age of today. Those people who are able to manage time properly are deemed as pretty successful within their respective domains. However, there are instances when people have serious issues regarding time management and this is remarked as one of the most Herculean tasks imaginable. What is required now is a vision to change one’s basis when it comes to time and manage things according to priorities. Even though time management is often deemed as a difficult thing to undertake, most people believe in its use because they know beforehand that its proper incorporation would solve most of the problems that engulf their lives. It also gives them the right vision to set things in accordance with the time limitations as far as future is concerned. This paper discusses the basic ideology regarding time management and how it has been seen in the light of the inherent principles and techniques that govern it. It is important to define what essentially time management is. It is the basis of properly allocating time dimensions to a particular activity so that all the tasks and activities that need to be completed by this individual are done within a stipulated time period. If the activities are not done within this allotted time, it would mean that there have been serious transgressions within this field and hence the overall time has been compromised upon. The people who are unable to manage time feel that they are a victim of their own doing as they blame themselves for the lack of adherence to time domains. But then again, there are people who are always punctual and believe earnestly within the reigns of time management. What is needed here is a balance between managing time activities and letting go of the issues which plague the timely completion of activities, tasks and actions (Haynes, 2009). This balance can only come about when people realize that their actions are being kept a check upon, if not by somebody else then their own selves as well. However, it becomes quite a hectic job to track each and every move that human beings undertake, and hence is a good idea to stick to the avenues of time management as much as possible. This makes things easier as far as the future undertakings of life, career and other fields are related. Some of the most significant principles within time management is to make sure that the priorities are broken up into different zones. What this implies is the fact that these priorities are segmented into top most, important, least important and not for now zones. This will tell the individual concerned as to how he shall manage his concerns and what amount of time he will be contributing to each activity or task that he has in mind. When priorities are shaped up in accordance, half of the tasks start getting done on time. However, it is pertinent that the tasks are given the proper time frames because these would require fulfillment and it would not be a good idea to deprive the tasks of their respective time durations. It is important that tasks are measured with respect to the amount of work that needs to be done and the people involved within it, not to forget the kind of resources that will be deployed towards the timely completion of the task at hand. This shall manage time in an effective and efficient way for the person who wants to believe in the dictum of time and thus create a change for his own self as far as time management is concerned (Kleiner, 1991). As far as the myth of under-utilizing time is concerned, what is required now is an effort on the part of the individual who wants to manage time wisely and with proper care. It is also a principle of time management that this person must not waste time because this creates room for vacuum in activities and tasks that have little or no bearing on the final outcomes. When people devote time to activities that shall not bring them any fruit, they are actually indulging in tasks and actions which have no results in the end. Then again, these are aspects that need to be taken care of and this can only be done through jotting down the activities with regards to time dimensions on a piece of paper or even on a computer machine. The need is to understand the importance of time that is being dedicated to each task and how properly time is being made use of within a person’s life realms. For professionals, time management is severely important because this sets the basis of their professionalism in the first place (Hood, 2010). It tells the ones around them of their credibility and professional adherence towards work tasks, codes and practices. However, with that comes a responsibility as well. These individuals need to showcase their true attachment to time and time management again and again. They must be proactive in their tasks, looking after the slightest of details with utmost significance because this will set the ball rolling for them in the long range scheme of things. Essentially, time management is something that if achieved properly could do a lot of good than bad within the related settings of growth and development for a person (Harung, 1998). It may actually be the difference between the right and the wrong within the present day and age, and thus create room for better harnessing the resources that are available at the hands of the society, the nature and the interaction that exists amongst the people at large. Even though time management is hard to contemplate and actually work upon, most of the researchers, scholars and famous people believe in its proper usage because they know that the time that has gone by will never come again for them. All said and done, this is one of the most significant areas which needs to be worked upon by people and time management will always take the lead under such discussions. References Harung, H., 1998.
