How to Build Teams Business world is ever getting more and more competitive and businesses in all the sectors of economy are becoming conscious of the need to capture advantage of each opportunity arising so as to outcompete their rivals; team building in the work place has come to be part of this. By encouraging and upholding team building actively in the work place, companies are in a position to cultivate more open communication among their staff, boost the staff’s morale and establish strong employment relationships. These will lead to more productivity from the workers and a health corporate culture. Employees who have their value acknowledge by the organization and receive respect from their boss go beyond their work jurisdiction willingly to achieve the company’s organization. There is need for companies to have a well built team of staff in the work place. In order to successfully build a team in the work place, there should be consistency and commitment. Team building is a process that calls for a comprehensive strategy which targets at developing and maintaining a work environment of team-oriented employees. When building a team in the work place, one needs to ensure purpose of the team is clearly defined. This is achieved through stating comprehensible realistic goals and making everybody in the team informed on the expectations, organization’s plan and their role in realizing the goals. The team should be made conscious of where they fit in the company through have contribution to the vision and the purpose of team building. Resources available for team building are very vital in coming with a team of staff in the work place. The resources should be accessible for use by the team. Furthermore, a proper communication is necessary for ensuring that connection between team members and the manger is two-way. A good team makes members feel excited on what they do and, thus, being in a position to handle challenges and failure. Creation of objectives and goals should be facilitated in a manner that allows all members to share the grounds. It is through this facilitation that talents, interests and ideas are identified from the group members. This way a shared path that influences everyone’s strength and talents is facilitated. According to the article by Allen, Pennisi & Norman on building development, high performance buildings are achieved through high performance teamwork. Given the supply chain and international competition facing the building industry, the industry has to come up with ways of developing high- performance building and a considerable reduction in energy consumption. This was the case with the United States manufacturing industry in 70’s and 80’s. It was necessary for the industry to adopt innovative and improved methods of product development in order to meet the competitive challenges. There is the necessity to make sure that a product meets what companies and customers want. High performance achieved through great products should be regarded as a norm (Allen et al 224). It is of greate value to have a customer focus organizational orientation. This entails having an understanding of customers’ needs so as to incorporate proactively the customers’ desires into the process of product development. Understanding customers’need as over the years evolved with a lot of variations but understanding what the customers want is vital in this field. In order to compete effectively in the building industry, there is the necessity to understand what is needed of a high- performance building. It should be able to tell who the customers of the industry are. Through knowing their customers, players in the building industry will have an understanding of the wide range of what they to experience. Understanding what the customer needs is of great importance as a building of high effectiveness and efficiency to its users. Such buildings are profitable to the owners as well. The building industry has had mediocre performance from the customers’ perspective due to their lack of set expectations on the buildings they create. These expectations can only be met by taking what the customers want into consideration (Allen et al 228). Although meeting customers’ expectations is of create importance in determining the performance of any business organization, means and ways of attaining customer satisfaction should be put in place. Team building in the building industry will of great deal in setting the objectives and focus of the industry. Through the set objectives, customers’ satisfaction will raise and the industry will then be in a position to compete effectively in the building market. Furthermore, the industry will benefit from the team as there will be better and faster decisions made with fewer people at a low cost and short schedule. The issues in team building and the ways of building teams so as to enhance organization’s performance in as provided by the article is of high importance. Organizations will only be able to compete effectively in the current competitive markets through having well built teams within their management structures (Allen et al 229) . The article by Senecal, Loughead and Bloom look at the effect that team goal setting has on cohesion as shown teams of athletes. It determines whether the execution of the team building intervention plans over time using the setting of the team goal increases perceptions which people develop on cohesion. Setting of the team goal is more particularly important as a way of maintaining cohesion throughout the season. When implementing a team program, orientations of cohesion for both group and individual are very important. When conducting a team building, all the measurements of cohesion are of great importance. Thus, organization should even involve individual measurements of cohesion while carrying out group activities. Team members should be involved in setting the team goal so as to facilitate cohesion since collaboration among teammates is part of the process (Senecal et al 195). This article is of great advantage to organizations in which there is little cohesion amongst its team members. It gives a guide line on how to attain cohesion in the process of setting the team’s goals. Mathew Pain and Chris Harwood in their article on team building describe the intervention for team building with a football team during a very competitive season. The intervention improves teams training quality, functioning self-understanding, ownership of the team by the player and team performance. The functioning of the team takes the form of communication, cohesion, confidence and trust in teammates. The players of the team linked the meetings with subjects of open discussions, honest, improved communication and information sharing (Pain & Harwood 527). The results showed that the team building interventions that are aimed at encouraging open discussion are effective. Cohesion is a key factor in building efficient team performance. Being in a team that work together with it members getting along well is a gratifying experience to both the team leader and the members. Team building is an on procedure of making possible the development of efficient and close group members by organizations. It is, thus, the process through which group members understand how they carry out their work together and prepare changes necessary to improve their effectiveness in the organization (Pain & Harwood 540). The merit of this article is that it addresses the requirements in building a team with very high effectiveness. The effectiveness of the team members is of great importance in determining the organizations’ success. Higher effectiveness translates to high performance, and vice versa. The three articles give reasons as to why it is important to built teams within any organization in order to competitive abilities in the world of competition. The articles address the various means that should be employed by the organizations in order to come up with effective teams. Although there is disparity on the areas of study and the particular topic of study covered in the articles, the articles have a conclusive view that team building is the most effective way of improving performance and all organization should consider irrespective of what they produce or provide.
