The emergent approach to strategic planning can help an organization to cope with changes in the operating environment through innovation and adoption of new production strategies to satisfy the needs of consumers. The research led me to appreciate the fact that strategic planning should be an inclusive process for all members of an organization. This realization sheds light with regards to the failures experienced by organizations that apply the top down approach in prescriptive strategic planning.

Strategy development is considered to be the work of a chief executive who is the strategist. Research regarding the emergent approach to strategic planning made me realize the need to apply strategic human resource practices such as involvement of employees in strategic planning. .
