BUSINESS PROCESS MANAGEMENT Business Process Management Business Process Management (BPM) refers to a disciplined approach that focuses on effectively and efficiently aligning all aspects of an organization with the vision of constant process improvement, technological integration, and increasing customer value (Perficient, Inc 2014, p. 1). Indeed, BPM defines a systematic approach that allows an organization to use of information technology, to formalize, document, automate, and monitor whole part of business processes in order to bring flexibility, traceability, and measurement (Vuksic 2012, p. 390). BPM has an overall aim of controlling and monitoring the organization’s processes while seeking to enhance effectiveness of its workflow (Perficient, Inc 2014, p. 1). Moreover, organizations abhor BPM with an aim of enhancing its capacity to adapt to the numerous changes in the business environment. Indeed, Business Process Management has been an effective methodology in ensuring that the organization responds to challenges in the business environment in an efficient, cost-effective, and reasonable manner (AIIM 2014, p. 1). To enhance the implementation of Business Process Management, organizations must integrate information technology and management. Notably, BPM has been very fundamental in setting out the methods, techniques, and tools that organizations must use in designing, controlling, implementing, and analyzing effective business processes (AIIM 2014, p. 1). As such, it is clear that Business Process Management has an optimal goal of fostering communication and establishing rational business process that guarantees the overall success of the organization. Most importantly is the fact that for any business to succeed, it must rely on business process management, which equally relates to people change management. Indeed, we can establish that business process management entails people, applications, documents, people, and various sources of information. Ideally, people change management relates to business process management in any organization within the business environment. It is factual that business process management entails a combination of processes, technologies, and people to enhance the overall performance in the organization and boost customer value (Perficient, Inc 2014, p. 1). People change management relates to the people’s perception on organizational change in a business environment. Indeed, business process management allows the management to design and implement people solutions that relate to the environmental and organisational culture of a specific business. Notably, business process management may require the organization to design and implement certain changes with an aim of enhancing performance, competitive advantage, and going concern. Indeed, any changes in an organization may face serious opposition by the people in an organization since such changes would affect their operations, motivation, performance, and responsibilities. As such, in business process management the management must consider the fact that any changes in the organization will affect the people’s job roles and responsibilities and hence the relations to people change management. Moreover, in analyzing the development, implementation, and success of BPM projects, the management must consider people change management and empowerment. The consideration of people change management and empowerment in any BPM project relates to the need to deal with organizational culture, which is very fundamental in any BPM project. In many instances, various people tend to rely on organizational culture with an aim of evading the process of change and hence the need to address people change management while designing business process management. Indeed, by considering people change management in BPM, the management will enhance its capacity and success in convincing the people in an organization to adopt change and follow the process. This derives efficiency and universal mode of operations in an organization. Under all circumstances change management, which forms business process management, is not a predetermined process, hence its development, adoption, and implementation involves people, and hence the need for people change management in BPM. Ideally, when the executive management needs to improve organizational culture, such a need emanates from the failure of organizational processes, structure, or the people management systems to respond to the defined expectations. Indeed, the failure of organizational processes and people management systems derives the need to organizational change as enshrined in business process management. The success of any organizational change as defined in business process management relies on people change management. This leads to the organizational culture in a BPM project, which defines project outcome as its overall goal. Notably, the BPM project may derive cultural changes in the organization. For such cultural changes to be applicable and universally accepted in the organization, the BPM projects must abhor people change management to enhance acceptability. The people in specific businesses are the custodians of organizational change that participate in business process management. As such, BPM projects must accommodate people change management for such changes to be successful. Indeed, the management can establish ideal processes and BPM systems but such systems will be irrelevant and inefficient if people within an organization refuse to adopt them or use them poorly in their operations. This would jeopardize the success of the BPM projects and systems and hence the need to incorporate them with people changes management. For any BPM project or system to derive organizational change that is acceptable by the people, the management must depict good leadership skills that will take time to inform the people about the need for organizational change about the significance of business process management. This follows from the fact that people in organizations require good leadership, consistency, and persistence for them to appreciate any changes in the organizational culture. For good leadership to have a place in the BPM project, the management must consider people changes management, which will encourage the people to adopt the direction and views of their leaders. Notably, people changes management advocates for leaders to concentrate on solutions and actions. To ensure that the management addresses and incorporates the views of the people in the business process management, they must consider people changes management, which would ensure that the BPM project represents the interests of the people. The business process management will incorporate a change program that will involve the selection of key people to take part in the BPM project. Moreover, the overall BPM project, new people responsibilities, and organizational culture will be part of the BPM program. Furthermore, the program will entail a detailed communication plan defining the mode of communication to all stakeholders and a strategy to ensure that people derive a clear understanding of the project. Ideally, ensure that the change program accommodates all these aspects, the management must depend on people changes management and hence its relation to the BPM. By depending on people changes management, the BPM project will have the benefit of creating a business environment that will encourage people in the organization to change according to the expectations of BPM. Indeed, the people will even be motivated to give their feedback with relation to organizational performance and the change program if the BPM considers their views and interests. The people changes management will assist the change process by defining the required behavioral change and the most appropriate channel to achieve such success within the business environment. The people changes management will equally help in determining the most relevant principles that people in an organization must develop. As such, the people changes management will help in analyzing the needs of the BPM project since it will advocate for the change program to relate with the people’s needs. Indeed, the people change management will test and recommend actions against the BPM, which will help the management to develop an effective BPM project. As such, it is quite clear that the success and effectiveness of business process management depends on the adoption of the people changes management.
