Moreover, Sniff and Scurry adhere to the traditional meaning of cheese as a mouse’s basic necessity while Hem and Haw perceive cheese differently – an embodiment of quality living with financial or material security, and good health, as well as every other thing that enables man to live happily.

According to the theory of change proposed by Kurt Lewin, change is comprised of three stages which are identified as the Unfreezing stage, the Change stage, and the Freezing stage. ‘Unfreezing’ involves readiness to understand the significance of change and in reference to the four characters in the story, when the cheese finally disappears in station C, Sniff and Scurry have been able to adapt to the approaching change after sometime of inspecting how the cheese lowered in supply. On the other hand, Hem and Haw have experienced difficulty in comprehending the situation, asking “Who moved my cheese?

Based on Lewin’s model, change is a process instead of a single event and at this stage, Haw can be observed to have undergone a journey with it, recording on the walls the key details of what he has learned. When Haw reaches the destination at which both Sniff and Scurry may be found, there appears an opulent supply of cheese, enough to last a lifetime and this scenario quite depicts the last stage which Lewin pertains to as the ‘Freezing’ or the stabilizing of a new state of affairs that the change has created.
