How Successful the Project Was The Austin Hill project has been very successful based on the positive packages attached to it. As explained by the Matt Sugarbaker when interviewed, we can categorically state beyond any reasonable doubt of the success of the project. The manner in which Matt responded to the question of how the managed to always remain within the schedule and the budget shows the reasons behind the project. In addition he pointed out the need to incorporate the proactive management with respect to stakeholders when the question was posted to him on what he felt could be the key to when dealing with different stakeholders. On the other hand, through Matt interview we are able to understand the success of the project as a product of his ability to distill the shifting diagram from the previous design meeting in which people the idea and the dream of the project. The success of the project can also be understood from the Llene Kleinsorge interview based on his viewpoint. Right from what the first question that needed the chronology of how the Austin Hall came to being, his response and explanation sets a clear precedent on the possibility of success as it was based on a proactive plan and ensuring every necessary material needed was put into place that even captured a lot of donations and contributions from other outside stakeholders. He pointed out on the need to include the fireplace within the building advancement further to explain how people were ready and willingly contributed towards the project based on the fact that they were able to provide effective leadership based on effective communication to convey every significant information to the stakeholders while at the same time embracing proactive management style to every stakeholder of the project. Llene interview also revealed the success of the project as fully to have been embedded on higher degree of prioritizing amongst the actions to be executed and at what particular time. The project has presented a lot of valuable success based on how it is designed to being the Leader in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) silver certification. With the inclusion of the professional meeting rooms, events space and a behavioral research center particularly for the business community, the project is thumped as the most successful. The project has also led to a prominent career success Center that assist the learners to acquire internships jobs as well as interviews. The ability to connect the facility to the Beth Ray Center for Academic Support has help map the institution as the solely college that is dedicated career center on the campus. In addition the Austin Hall project has been a successful undertaking based on the fact that it has presented innovative learning streets established to offer common places as well as small meeting areas for the interaction amongst the faculty and the student population. Topics Selected Managing Stakeholders and Risk Management The discussion will be embedded on the two chosen topics; Managing stakeholders and risk management. The success of the Austin Hall Project was embedded on the ability to minimize risk as well as proactively manage the various stakeholders evolved. Through the top management of the project, coordination was key in ensuring the success and hence risk taking was inevitable which subsequently called for an elaborate strategy to manage both stakeholders as well as risks (Wheeler 2011). Proactive management therefore offered an opportunity to manage stakeholders and simultaneously curb the occurrence of risk as it is better to find people doing the right thing than being engaged on wrong actions that leads to higher chances of risk occurrence. In addition to the two topics chosen, the researcher uses the following three selected lesson learned from the project. The first lesson learnt is with respect to communication. Early Communication is key within the organization and ensures as it help the institution proactively design laws and regulations and suggest proactive ways to be employed in the enforcement of these proposed norms and rules and particularly when they are broken by the stakeholders. In addition to communication exercise as the first lesson learned from this project, the researcher has also picked on the proactive management of stakeholders. Strategic managers need to break away from the bondage of reactive management and to fully embrace the proactive management based on its effectiveness in the management of stakeholders and the same time leading to risk minimization within the institution. The third lesson learned from the project is the important of effective leadership. Managers need to be vastly endowed with efficient leadership skills which then translates into risk minimization through proactive management based on proper and effective communication. The chosen topics will thus help us unfold the discussion while being driven by the lesson learned already mentioned in the discussion. Lessons Learnt Proactive Manage Stakeholders One of the major take home lessons learnt from this project is the significance of proactive stakeholder’s management. There are more pros then cons with respective proactive management unlike reactive management. It is learnt that for a sound success to be realized, there is a need to dig a well before one is thirsty. Putting this to this context, a manager should always be proactive in his strategies in management. This strategy help weed out the chances of risk occurrence leading to proper risk management. The Golden rule should always be applied and remain a fundamental tool for proactive managers. A strategic manager thus can only develop trusts among his stakeholders based on frequent contact with the internal customers. A proactive manger should be well endowed with tips for upward management tips such as timing, loyalty, never embarrass and putting things to perspective (Chinyio & Paul 2010). To be proactive is alluded to the phrase, “Feed Vs Feed me.” This then means that one should always try as much to be self-reliance in order to proactively manage the stakeholders. It is beneficial when a strategic manager embrace, “The One Minute Manager” slogan that aims at ensuring that the stakeholders are always caught doing the right things as opposed those management that aims at catching the employees involved in wrong actions based on lack of application of proactive management. Early Communication is Key to Design the Tone, Rules and How Rules are enforced Another key lesson learnt is with respect to communication exercise. Early communication is key in establishment of the tone, rules as well as outlines how rules are enforced to those breaking them. Managers therefore minimize the chances of risk occurrence as the stakeholders fear being punished by the law. Communication therefore is a tool that ensures the creation of a competitive environment that is beneficial to contractors that are success-oriented. With earlier and effective communication within the organization, a teamwork is created leading to the creation of a collaborative cultural corporate cultural design and hence making firms focus on winning wars and not small unnecessary competitive battles. Communication has been very key to the success of any goal within institution (Adair 2009). Where there is communication breakdown, there are increased cases of failures since the organization policies statements such as mission, vision, goals and values cannot be effectively conveyed to help the organization establish an effective teamwork aiming at achieving specific firm’s goal. The results of such information asymmetry is that each employs and/or stakeholder will advance personal objectives at the expense of the organizations and hence a blow to the achievement of the institutional set goals and objectives. Partnering greatly contributed to the success of the of the Project based on the fact that its management body was able to effectively separate people from the problem besides employing higher degrees of negotiations that help review the architectural design to settle on the best as well as settle on the best priorities. Leadership is Important With respect to the third lesson learned, the important of having leadership is still being portrayed by the strategic managers, it is a mandatory for firms’ top management to showcase effectiveness in leadership skills resulting from better endowment in communication. It is through effective leadership that management is feasible others managers cannot be efficient when the barely possess efficient leadership skills within their organization and how to deal with the stakeholders. With effectiveness in leadership skills, the probability of the stakeholders presenting high-risks situations in the institution is minimized. The success of the project is leaned to have been as result of effective leadership offered by the institution that ran alongside effective communication amongst the stakeholders. This has been revealed through the interviews based on the need to reduce risks as well as ensure a higher degree of proactive management of the various stakeholders. Effectiveness in leadership help proactive strategic managers design and establish teamwork that culminates in a collaborative non-competitive environment. Such environment provide avenues for success as it was the case of Austin Hall project that attracted massive contribution to fund the construction and purchase and installation of every facilities needed to boost the provision and delivery of business courses.
