In business management or marketing, businesspersons intending to develop a new idea to introduce or sell a particular product employ different approaches. One of these approaches is the idea checklist method. Wilson (2013) affirms that the checklist method demands that a new idea is developed by using a number of or a list of related questions or propositions. Through the list, the entrepreneur is capable of guiding the direction of the new idea development process (Hisrich, Peters & Shepherd, 2013). In fact, the checklist may take any form or be lengthy depending on the idea being developed. This paper seeks to provide a brief statement that identifies a product and three new, creative ideas relating to the selected product.

Before developing a new product, one must look into various issues such as: generating ideas from suggestions of the customers; assessing these ideas whether or not they fit with the strategy to be employed; researching the market by focusing on the competitiveness of the product; team formation; designing critical path, setting budgets; considering other related risks; defining basic product requirement; valuing the selling price; designing the product; coming up with a prototype, gearing up for a full-scale invention; and the final essential issue is continuous monitoring of the product (Wilson, 2013).

Below is an example of a checklist based on a release-readiness checklist for a desktop software product. This kind of checklist is an exit manuscript that indicates whether or not a specific product feature gives an acceptable user experience.
User Experience (UX) Release-Readiness Checklist
o Are all the features manageable through the keyboard
o The system gives protections for cataclysmic loss of data
o Usability objectives for efficacy have been met
o Usability objectives for consummation have been met.
In conclusion, as demonstrated in the above example, there are various approaches for evaluating one’s idea. The most important aspect is to choose the best criteria that best suit a particular entrepreneur’s needs depending on the type of product (Hisrich, Peters & Shepherd, 2013).
