Career development is a very long process. It involves learning, practical implementation of theory and knowledge, enhancement of skills and capabilities etc. A good career helps an individual in his overall growth and development. Education level and qualities of a person play a vital role in the development of his career. Selecting appropriate career can change the entire life of a person. Therefore career selection is very important in achieving the goals and objectives of life. For achieving success in career an individual has to improve its various qualities and capabilities. He needs to overcome his weaknesses which can help him to perform work effectively. Before selecting any career a person needs to analyse the essential things which are required for that particular career. Based on the analysis he should prepare himself for pursuing that particular career. This case study will highlight the important things required for the career development of a person. The process of building a career and the ways of achieving success in that particular career will be mentioned in this essay. Answer 1 I want to become the floor manager of a retail store of Walmart. I wish to pursue my career as a store manager because I am very interested to work in retail industry. There is a huge career growth in retail industry. Walmart provides many opportunities and chances for enhancing the career. The important purpose for selecting this career is to enhance my personal skills. I have some weaknesses which create some negative impact on my professional life. So when I will perform the responsibilities and tasks of a retail floor manager then I will be able to overcome my weaknesses. My fluency rate is very low. As a floor manager I have to interact with store executives and the customers. For this reason I will be compelled to improve my fluency level. By interacting with many people I will be able to know the ways through which I can improve my fluency level. I do not have much capability to develop and produce creative ideas. But being a floor manager I have to become creative for increasing the revenue and productivity of the store. This will help me to develop creativity. My career purpose is to become a successful person and to become an efficient manager of a company. The position of floor manager will facilitate me in fulfilling my career purposes. If I perform efficiently in this role then I can become a store manager of Walmart retail store. Gradually by delivering strong and effective performance I can become the area manager of this organization. I need to acquire and enhance some important skills and qualities for achieving all the personal and career purposes. I have to speak fluently with others for becoming successful in my career. My fluency level is very low. So I need to interact more with people and have to understand the way they are following for communicating with others. A floor manager is required to be creative for innovating new business plans and ideas (Andriopoulos and Dawson, 2009). So I have to improve my creative skills and qualities. This will help me to crop up with new and creative ideas which can increase the revenue of the store. I have to rectify my tendency of taking decision quickly. A floor manager analyses many things before taking any decision because various things of a store depends upon his decision. Therefore I have to develop the habit of analysing and understanding things before taking any decision. I need to come out of my shy nature co operate effectively with the other employees for achieving the purposes of my career. Answer 2 My most recent career decision is to become the floor manager of Walmart’s retail store. This career decision will contribute a lot in achieving my goals and objectives of professional development. I have some specific interest, values, strength factors and motivational issues. All of these things have influenced me for taking this career decision. I value the things which are practical and can be found in real life. This value will contribute a lot in fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of a floor manager. As per the practical scenario I will develop decision which can become very useful for the business. But my values in proposing any idea are very weak. It can hinder the execution of the proposal and can affect my performance negatively. New challenges motivate me in performing any job. As a floor manager I am going to face new challenges very frequently which will encourage me in delivering better performance. My interest lies in fulfilling my career and personal purposes in a short span of time. The job position of floor managers can provide me this opportunity (Andriopoulos and Dawson, 2009). By delivering effective performance I will be able to fulfil my interests. One of my important strength factors is my confidence level.
