Stop & Shop Supermarket Company is a chain of supermarkets located mainly in the Northeastern United States and it is the largest food retailer in New England. It is a multibillion-dollar corporation owned by Dutch food giant Ahold. It operates over 375 stores in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Connecticut, New York and New Jersey.
Stop & Shop management realizes that to compete with the mass merchandisers, price and availability is the name of the game. Stock-outs, poorly positioned inventory and low perfect-order fill rates and keeping high inventory levels are not acceptable in the industry (Foster, 2007).
To assist Stop & Shop in their supply chain and inventory strategy, they engaged the services of Blue Sky Logistics.
