Commercials Commercials are elements of television programming produced and paid for by the organization, used majorly for the conveyance of messages, which in most instances involve marketing of certain products or services (Fridell, 2009). Commercials are significantly important to the all the concerned individuals. For the television networks, which are the major distribution channels for the commercials, enable for the easy distribution of the advertisements. From the commercials, the television networks get the necessary funds necessary for running their programs.

In the case of the producers and owners of the products and services, the commercials establish an expansion of the potential target market, an aspect that would benefit the commercial producers by increasing their market scope. Commercials also enable the target markets have a better understanding of the products and services, while comparing, the products and services from different producers and making determinations on which ones to acquire (Fridell, 2009). While watching one of my most favorite television programs ‘Doctor Who,’ four different commercials come, one appears from the break prior to the start of the program, two mid the program and the last one at the break following the end of the show.

Before the start of the program, a commercial advertisement of Commercial Bank of Africa, an advertisement that informs the audience of the high interest rates provided by the bank as well as the good customer care offered to customers who make it into the bank. The main message in the commercial involves requesting for people to bank with Commercial Bank of Africa as they also offer significantly low transaction fees as well as the high-interest rates earned by its current customers. The advertisement appeal in the commercial is the state of relaxation of an individual currently banking with CBA and enjoys the benefits being advertised.

The main target audience for the advertisement is for working class adults of all ages. The second advert that came amid the program was that of Blue Band. In the advert message, it is clearly stated that Blue Band has sufficient energy needed by kids to grow strong and have good eyesight. The advertisement appeal shows a number of kids playing football in the field after taking bread spread with Blue Band. Such targets the whole family; however, with specificity on children. Another commercial that comes amid the program is that of Dettol.

The massage in the commercial is for children to wash their hands with Dettol Soap in order to prevent certain diseases caused by germs. The appeal shown is a child falling sick after having eaten without washing their hands. As such the main target for the advert are all family members with the adults guiding the little ones on how to maintain good hygiene and the benefits associated with such. The final commercial that comes immediately at the end of the program is that of pampers, a product of PnG.

In the commercial, it is clear how a mother ensures that the child has the best of sleep after the use of pampers in place of nappies for a period of up to eight hours long without any discomfort. The message delivered in the commercial is that the use of pampers ensures that the baby has a sound sleep and wakes up happy. The appeal shown is that of a baby waking up jubilant after having had a long night of pamper use. The main targets for the commercial are mothers, despite the fact that the commercial has more concern for children.

From a critical review of the program ‘Doctor Who,’ it is evidently clear that the main target audience are children ranging between ages seven to fifteen (Howe and Walker, 2003). It is indeed based on such a perspective that a number of the adverts revolve around children and elements pertaining to them. Other than the products shown in the commercials, other products that would be best buys for the audience of children include foods, toy adverts and other playing materials, and children’s day out.

Such would have a significant benefit from the views of children as the target. On another perspective, there are certain advertisements that would receive poor buys. Such include commercials involving home developments such as mortgages, football match analysis, family planning related issues and other investment related adverts. Considerable, most of the characteristics in the primary research match the actual aspects involved in the program after conducting secondary research. In all commercials shown, one that I significantly connected with was the one involving Dettol Soap.

The commercial is substantively educative on the benefits associated with good hygiene for all individuals.
