Mayo passed on in 1919, the Mayo Brothers who had then assumed ownership, voluntarily transferred proprietorship to the Mayo Properties Association. It is at this juncture that Mayo Clinic began being managed under group practice, proper. The mission of the hospital is to inspire hope, and to contribute wellness and health, through the provision of the best treatment and care to every patient through an integrated approach to clinical practice, education and healthcare research. Other organizations and agencies which have accorded Mayo Clinic with monetary grants because of positive ratings include Beacon, the Rochester Epidemiology Project and the Strategic Health IT Advanced Research Project Programs (SHARP).
