Competency 3 – Use Assessment and Evaluation Strategies In the process of my teaching practicum I have been able to carefully evaluate as well as grade written assignments and followed by a detailed feedback accompanied with the most appropriate resources to enable the students improve their writing skills. Competency 4 – Participate in Curriculum Design and Evaluation of Program Outcomes I currently engage in curriculum design as a DEU Clinical Instructor. I have developed documents and organized educational materials to give to the nursing students. I recently started a Dedicated Education Unit work group for the Clinical Instructors on my unit. The purpose of the work group administered is to promote evidence-based teaching and evaluation strategies, share my educational initiatives and knowledge, and to learn successful strategies utilized by the other Clinical Instructors. Competency 5 – Function as a Change Agent and Leader I am have been acting as a change agent while at the same time demonstrating leadership skills through the initiation of a DEU work group and practicing leadership. As a Clinical Instructor I have been guiding the clinical learning among nursing students and by displaying characteristics of a role model. Competency 6 – Pursue Continuous Quality Improvement in the Nurse Educator Role In my Nursing Education process I created a multiple choice test that was administered to my workmates. Out of the test I realized from their response that their interpreted the meaning of questions and setting of the test was different what I had intended. This helped me learnt how to develop test questions for evaluating performance. Competency 7 – Engage in Scholarship Scholarship in nursing entails al the activities that lead to advancement of the teaching, practice and research of nursing. I have met this competency by using past existing literature in my filed of specialization to design and implement a learning related activity and to utilize the knowledge acquired from it. Competency 8 – Function Within the Educational Environment During my practice as a Nurse Educator I have been able to incorporate the missions and goals of my workplace and that of the nursing program I have been working in.
