Many soldiers got lost during the war yet the war had no signs of coming to an end. The loss of soldiers gave rise to the need to recruit more soldiers over a short period. The experience of the latter in the war had driven fear into the young men all over. As a result, very few wished to join the army. The army chiefs had an obligation to recruit below-par quality men into the military. There was an unthinking reaction that later amount to a catastrophic blow to the institution (Gole 142).

Therefore, DePuy embarked on a mission to change the conditions and alter the direction the army was taking for the betterment. DePuy understood that among the key reasons for this condition in the army was the low budget for their expenditure. He, therefore, used his influence to ensure the adjustment of the budget to fit the army spending. However, it was not an easy task (Gole 227).

Being the realistic soldier he was, General DePuy initiated the Doctrinal Reform. The reform aimed at enhancing the quality of soldiers both on the battlefield and in the ordinary world. The soldiers became educated on various life perspectives and thus looked down on those who viewed the doctrinal reform as a scholastic exercise (Gole 341).

General DePuy used his position as the commander to influence the adoption of the reforms that were based on self-interest. General DePuy formulated the military institution rules that would metamorphosis every department in the institution from recruitment requirements to the budget for the army. He had learned from the World War II experiences that confrontation did not yield much. Therefore, although Darly held German military thought in high regard, his methodical choices for the US Army’s great doctrinal rebirth seemed more reminiscent of those of the 1920s French army.
