Running Head: STUDIES OF SOCIETY AND ENVIRONMENT Studies of Society and Environment [The [The of the Institution] Studies of Society and Environment (SOSE) Introduction According to the expert analysis "The Economy and Society strand introduces students to the structure and management of the economy and its resources, the world of work and business, and Australia's political and legal systems. It promotes the development of enterprise skills and attributes, and draws on past and contemporary issues and a range of perspectives, particularly those related to the future and technology" (CSF). Historical foundations of SOSE If we analyzed then we come to know about the historical foundations of SOSE that the Commerce subject falls under the Studies of Society and the Environment (SOSE) knowledge region of the Curriculum and Standards Framework (CSF). "SOSE is a study of human progress and how people have organized themselves into societies over time, and how they have interacted with their physical environments" (CSF). Multiple disciplines within SOSE No doubt, in years 7 to 10 the CSF draw round for SOSE include the strands of History, Geography and also Economy and Society, which is what the schools trade subject is stand on. Knowledge regarding the capacity of SOSE I think that Commerce assist form the foundations youthful people need to make sound decisions on monetary, commerce, legal and service issues because it supply practical knowledge, skills, sympathetic and values. Having information regarding these concepts and how to apply them is helpful for young adults to study early. "With changing times, the need to give young people a grip on money management has increased... More than a third of school students' work, and two-thirds of 15 to 19-year-olds earn up to $200 a week. Not all know how to handle that income" (Russell, 2004; Age). Furthermore, Commerce offers students with "and understanding of the relations between consumers, trade and governments in the in general economy" (Board of Studies, NSW, 2003). These are subjects that they may not unavoidably think regarding, even though they previously earning and spending currency. Capacity to Organize Information for Effective Communication If we analyzed then we come to know that Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV) conducted investigation last year to find out how customer education is taught in Australia and abroad in order to assist design a program to get better financial literacy amongst teenagers. "Young Australians stand for a $4 billion a year profitable market. Through more spending power then preceding generations, youthful children and adolescents are increasingly the target group for different forms of marketing practices and commercial pressures" (CAV, 2004). It is significant that adolescent adults are conscious of their rights and farm duties as consumers because they are previously purchasing products such as mobile phones and cars that frequently comprise multifaceted contracts. A key finding from the research was that lots of students do not take delivery of consumer education at school. I feel that Commerce education is generally delivering the right kind of educational experiences for the current generation. I do although agree that young adults would most definitely benefit if the curriculum added a more in-depth unit on financial literacy and consumer education. We are living in a constantly changing world and society must provide our children with education that will prepare them for a life of revelation. No doubt, this literature suggests that in the prospect "the curriculum will be justified in terms of its capacity to help children acquire skills for work and life" (Collins, 2002, pg 45). So the financial system and society of the future have to be taken into account when developing commerce prospectus. The main concepts urbanized in the Economy and society thread include: Civics and communal organization, Citizenship, Economic organization and decision-making, Employment, Enterprise, Business and monetary association and Globalisation. I believe that Commerce assist form the foundations youthful people need to make sound decisions on monetary, business, legal and service issues because it provides sensible knowledge, skills, sympathetic and values. Having knowledge concerning these concepts and how to apply them is helpful for youthful adults to learn early. "With changing times, the need to give young people a grip on money management has increased... More than a third of school students work, and two-thirds of 15 to 19-year-olds earn up to $200 a week. Not all know how to handle that income" (Russell, 2004; Age). Commerce offer students by means of "an understanding of the relationships between consumers, businesses and governments in the overall economy" (Board of Studies, NSW, 2003). These are subject that they may not of necessity think concerning, even though they already earning and expenditure money. School Curriculum The schools Commerce subject also aims to create awareness of the values and attitudes associated with being a responsible citizen. It hearten them to "value and appreciate ethical and socially responsible behaviour in relation to personal decision-making, business practices, employment and legal issues" (Board of Studies, NSW, 2003). It also let somebody know students of the "fundamental rights, rules and laws that promote fairness, justice and equity in our society through responsible and active citizenship" (Board of Students, NSW, 2003). No doubt, the nature of the subject also teaches students necessary life skills such as difficulty solving, decision-making, dangerous thinking, reflective learning and the chance to contribute in the group of people (Cook, M., 2002). These skills are not only valuable in the outside world but can be beneficial in improving students' comprehension of other key learning areas, for example mathematics. The concepts taught and the perceptive nature of Commerce allows students to apply their knowledge gained from mathematics in a practical sense. It can assist students in considerate the need for mathematics by engaging them with 'real-life'- scenarios, such as accounting and monetary literacy. I believe Commerce teaching in education is highly beneficial to students, especially as they are getting closer to entering the 'real world'. Studying Commerce provides students with the chance to engage in the learning procedure and encourages them to examine present events and issues. Through their study, students are challenged to form their own opinions and expand the capacity to believe seriously concerning the world they live in. Conclusion This indicates that the problem is not only whether Commerce teachers are delivering the right kind of enlightening experiences, but also whether all students are receiving the Commerce education they require. Commerce studies allow youthful adults to learn about the planet they live in and how to make sense of it. It assists students to make informed decisions concerning issues that have an effect on them at present, and in the future. The sensible nature of Commerce subject facilitates students to understand that they are the future. "... Continuing development of democracy, justice and sustainability needs new ways of thinking about and participating in work and the economy, and education must play a role in developing this" (Board of Studies NSW 2003).
